Will a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter work with a PC?

Recommended Posts

I bought a new graphics card, and it doesn't have a port for an older, secondary VGA monitor I use.

The only Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter I can find is designed for Macs.

Will this work with my Radeon 7870 "Tahiti LE" and Windows?

Their other cables (HDMI-DVI, etc) all work on normal graphics cards.

As far as I am aware they are just normal cables with an Apple look (all of them are :p)

Here's a non Apple one though if you are concerned: http://www.maplin.co...-adaptor-454320

?20 haha, Maplin have always been ridiculous.

I don't see why it wouldn't work with a Windows PC. It's just an adaptor.

Edit: To elaborate, the Mini DisplayPort... port.. has a Digital to Analog convertor in it, so there's no conversion needed in the adaptor itself.

That's what this topic was about, whether the analogue to digital conversion would be an issue.

Tar guys :)

I use my Macbook's Mini Displayport to VGA adapter on my gaming PC for Eyefinity multi-monitor gaming. So, you should be just fine using one on your PC... :)
