Question

Hi there. This is about the least informative post you'll read in a while.

Basically, I'm looking for a piece of software that I used to use back in the good old XP days. It had a 'native' looking (professional, serious, in contrast to the plastic ULTRA BOOST apps out there) interface and a great collection of various registry tweaks you could apply. It wasn't one of those 'boost your speed' programs, but rather a toolbox so to speak.

If any of you masters know the name of that program, or of any suitable alternatives, please advise. :)

TweakUI?

I wouldn't use a tweaking program with Windows 7/8. There's no need and they tend to do more harm than good.

No, not that one. And I agree with you to some extent, but I'm not looking to change things radically, but there are things like 'open command prompt' here and dozens of similar things that I find useful. I remember that app had all of these "under the same roof". (Yes, I could Google all the reg edits myself, but it'd be nicer with a fancy interface to do it for me! :) )

@ Gary7,

Doesn't quite look like what I'm after, but thanks! :)

Something like XP Smoker, WinTools.net or maybe the dead X-Setup Pro?

X-Setup is the one! But shoot, it's a dead project. :/

I'll check out the rest of the links in the thread tomorrow, after some sleep. Thanks for your help!

What exactly are you wanting to "tweak" with Windows?

Truth? I find it fun, perhaps even nostalgic. Also, there are some I find useful; I'm just not clever enough to be aware of them and find the necessary registry entries.

You might want to check out the above site. It has many tweaks.

Thanks, I'll check it out in the morning. :)

    • Microsoft Edge comes pre-installed with Windows 11 and it's a great browser, so why not use it? Not everyone is trying to run away from Google, sometimes people just want convenience and less friction.
