installing Win 8 from usb flash drive - strange issue

When I use the Windows 8 upgrade assistant to make a bootable flash drive for installing Win 8 my bios won't recognize the drive, however when I use the old Win 7 USB/DVD download tool it works fine. Any ideas on why this may be? The files within the flash drive from both methods look the same. I find it strange the old tool that was made before Windows 8 was in existence is working better than the official one.

I used the win 7 USB tool thing to chuck the win8 install onto a USB, and worked fine for two PCs - I thinkn the same tool works for 7 & 8. I also coulndt get the win8 upgrade assistant to work properly for me, hence the win7 tool. Good luck!

I can't say I actually used the upgrade assistant. The whole process felt a bit weird with not enough information given to what was happening at the time. So I opt to save the ISO to my PC as I wasn't about to trust it to make a USB or burn it to disc for me and then leave me with out a backup. I burned a couple of backups to CD of the original ISO file that was downloaded and then used the old Win7 USB tool to put one on a USB stick that I've dedicated to Windows 8 install.

Interestingly though with USB, If I set the USB stick to read only the install will fail on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 as it seems to create a log file on the USB stick. Not sure why it does this, as I'm sure it doesn't when installing from CD.

Still, wouldn't surprise me of the upgrade assistant didn't work. Wasn't impressed that I had to run it and order via it rather then a standard webpage.

      In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
