Are you guys even interested in the new consoles?

Nope. I think I'm done with console gaming now. I owned all of the last-gen consoles at various points (Xbox 360, PS3, and a Wii) and all of them began to collect dust very quickly prior to finding new homes.

if you really need to bring the new xbox online everytime for gaming, then definitely not. the best thing with the 360 is that u can play copied games. it makes the conosle affordable. pc gaming is too expensive and the playstation is just trash for the reason you cant play copied games.

i will keep my 360.

I may actually get a console this time around. I'm eagerly awaiting to see what Microsoft and Sony are doing. Been a PC gamer for the longest, and while I think the argument of it being "expensive" is stupid, I'm more interested in finding a way to get more use out of my TV for something other than football. As it stands, my TV is about as dusty as my friend's Nintendo consoles.

^^ I'm so out of touch that I cannot be completely certain of what console (PS3?) that is - as in, I wouldn't be my life on knowing it.

Edit: OMG just Googled PS3 and it wasn't it? What is it? I don't recognise the game packaging either.

I'm rapidly losing interest, but that's partly because of leaks, crazy teasers out usually almost a year before actual launch etc... Just get fed up of waiting in their misguided attempts to generate a buzz.

Personally I would like to see teasers about 4 months before reveal. But I understand that in order to cater for everyone, part of the reason is so people in low income situations can save enough money to buy it on launch day.

.... and while I think the argument of it being "expensive" is stupid,

the argument is not stupid but based on numbers and a bit of calculation. its been true 5 years ago and will be true the next 5 years.

except, of course, by gaming you mean playing solitaire and hearts on an old windows pc.

The hardware may be more expensive, but due to things such as the frequent sales on steam the software actually comes out being much cheaper. When you factor that together the rift between the two price wise is very small. Nowhere near what you are implying.

I've always been a PC gamer but I've owned each and every console from both sides of the generation so far and I don't see this one being any different, PS4 at launch and Durango when the price drops.

I don't get the idiotic loyalty or pc master race crap that people pull, there are plenty of console games that the PC doesn't get.

Crackdown 1 (for the 360) is still in my top five best games ever.

I don't know what we'll see for exclusives in the next gen, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of awesome ones.

In many cases the PC market seems to be all about getting as many people playing as possible these days, not providing the best game possible. I'll stick with it when it makes sense, but I'm not sure it'll make sense for a few years post launch.

i suspect that most people just download their games - no matter if for consoles or pcs. i pay 2,5 euros roughly for every xbox game. and i paid 300 euros for the console - once.

with pc you have to upgrade your hardware all the time, while with consoles the game companies are forced to optimize code and other things for a given hardware spec.

face it, pc gaming is much more expensive no matter how you calculate.

Yep i am interested because i'm interested in technology and whether i'll end up playing anything on the new consoles is irrelevant as they will shape the future of the living room.

It's not worth arguing they wont listen. PC master race gaming at max detail can't be done on one spec of PC through the 10 year life of a games console. You are going to have to upgrade at LEAST twice in the course of a console lifetime with a new graphics card, new processor, more memory, etc.. at least $/?500 a time.

Or you can buy a $/?300-400 console and be able to play the latest games for 10 years.

It is stupid. If I'm going to buy a powerful desktop over the course of time anyway, why the heck would I bother buying a powerful desktop capable of what I want to do, AND a gaming console? My spending limit on graphic cards is around $130-140 anyway. I'm running a 9800GTX still for instance, and I'm still playing Battlefield 3 at better resolution and settings as a console... I bought this back in 2008 too.

TL;DR: It's not as expensive as you think. Besides, I can't be bothered with Live subscriptions, $60 games at release, hell I don't even have an HDTV yet! :o

You're acting like no one has purchased a PC anyway over that time though. Maybe today that would make sense in the age of smartphones and tablets, but many of us have some sort of computer... Let's quit playing make believe.

Even if I wasn't a PC gamer, I'd still have bought 2 desktops since 2004 anyway given their life expectancy...

It isn't really an apples to apples comparison though. You can do a lot more with a PC than you can with a console. With that said, this thread shouldn't turn into a PC vs. consoles debate. It's about people's interest level in the next-gen consoles. Sony's supposed to reveal the PS4 today so that should be interesting.

Yeah but the PC Master race likes to crow about how their graphics are always superior to that of consoles, try playing a latest game using a 3-4 year old graphics card, there is no way you can run them in anything higher than medium at native resolution.

I'd rather buy one ?350 box than 2 or 3 ?200+ graphics cards, ?150 processors, etc.. to guarantee gaming for 10 years.

word! or buy one xbox and one 400 euro pc for internet, office, etc.... and know what you are still cheaper and better of than with a pure gaming pc. but some poeple obviously love to burn their money anyhow they can

My only question to you though would be: how many computers did you buy over that time though?

Also, I've bought two graphics cards at $130-140 each since 2004 (my first desktop I ever bought). That's $260-280... No one is saying that PC gaming is better, but rather that it isn't expensive as one might think. That's all...

Not even remotely.

1. Dated hardware

2. crazy expensive games for consoles

3. Poor price to gaming performance

4. PC gaming is alot more cost effective and derives more utility.

5. NO Steam, or Steam Sales, because not everyone is super rich !

End of Discussion. Period.

Considering that in 2004 there were no Intel Core CPU, you either don't game or you purchased a new CPU meanwhile, meaning that you spent quite a bit more than $280.

Any 600? PC purchased in 2006~2007 can't run games that the Xbox 360 can today. Used games for the 360 are very cheap. PC gaming is more expensive.
