I have (for example) bob@outlook.com I tried to register bob@gmail.com but it says it is taken. Can I make a Google Account out of bob@outlook.com? How? Or am I doing something impossible?

Note: I am saying a Google Account, NOT a gmail account.

A Google Account requires a Gmail address. Well, requires a Gmail address is not entirely true. Google requires you to create a Gmail address in order to get a Google Account of any type.

if you have an email address associated with your google account that's not a gmail address and you have it on your phone you will get "google talk authentication failed" notifications on your phone and it will annoy you.

You don't need a Gmail address, I am using my Inbox.com email address for my Google account, but Google keeps trying push Gmail down your throat, once you have a Google account getting a Gmail only takes a couple of clicks, make sure to refuse it.

When you go to https://accounts.google.com/SignUp simply choose "I prefer to use my current email address" beneath the Choose your username field.
