Now I'm no artist, but I know good art when I see it. I've been browsing around and going out and about to see what's out there (I just so happened to be looking for art to buy)...

Some of the contest entries were real nice, however the winners were terribly hideous.. and I mean HIDEOUS! Not "in an artistic way", I mean it looked to be painted by an amateur. Turns out the artist was a "big name artist" (whatever that means).

Is judging political? Or do they really choose "What they think deserves to win"? 0.o your input please. Let's just say a gorgeous girl portrait (almost Victorian looking) was beat out by an old lady kissing a cactus... it was just silly.. (best of show and go figure, being sold for 15,000 dollars)

I did however get to buy something nice. It wasn't a painting, but it was embroidery of pandas in a black frame :)
