Problems with IE10 on Windows 7 x64

Recommended Posts

From the day I first installed IE10 Preview version, IE 10 has been nothing but problems. All throughout the time I was using the preview version, I would see multiple times a day a message stating: "You are not connected to a network." I did not find out what was causing this, even after posting a message in the Microsoft Community forums. Once the official release of IE10 came out, the issue of 'not connected to a network' seemed to go away.

In the past week, I have seen this message come back a couple of times. Now a new issue has developed with IE10. It is constantly crashing for no apparent reason. If I have a couple of tabs open and then close the lid on my laptop and come back to it a few hours later (or the next day), as soon as I login I see a message that Internet Explorer has stopped working. In some cases, simply opening a new tab causes IE to stop working and it closes and reopens all the tabs.

Just prior to coming here and posting this message, I had logged into my school website and was sending a message to someone. The instant I hit submit, IE decided that was the perfect time for it to crash, and it displayed a message stating "Internet Explorer has stopped working." I should have known beforehand that this was going to happen and I should have copied my message to the clipboard so I could just do a paste and not have to type it again.

I've never had a problem with IE until version 10. I don't suppose that since it was originally intended for Windows 8 and it just so happens that Microsoft made it compatible for Windows 7, would have anything to do with the issues I am experiencing? I don't believe a virus or anything else is the cause of this. Something just isn't working right.

Try disabling Hardware Acceleration (Internet Options -> Advanced -> check 'Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering').

Open up the 'Manage addons' dialog and disable all the addons you have installed.

Check another browser to see if you can reproduce the 'Not connected to network' error, or if the issue is only related to IE.

>>>This option is already checked.

Open up the 'Manage addons' dialog and disable all the addons you have installed.

>>>Most everything in addons is disabled.

Adobe Shockwave Flash, Microsoft XML DOM document and Silverlight, Java Plugin 10.17.2, Java Plug-in SSV helper (listed twice), and Skype are enabled.

Check another browser to see if you can reproduce the 'Not connected to network' error, or if the issue is only related to IE.

>>>Firefox seems to be working without any problems.

I'm using auto DNS settings. Are the DNS settings the reason for the not connected to a network message?

What can be done to make IE stop crashing all the time?

If it was already checked, uncheck 'Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering', because ideally you want to be using Hardware Acceleration.
