Windows 95 Widescreen Wallpaper

Recommended Posts

I revamped the original Windows 95 wallpaper and made into a widescreen format! I did not remaster it though!

Enjoy!

because he hates windows 8, and wants everyone to know it.

By making a widescreen wallpaper of the Windows 95 logo?

.

Anyway, thank you, lctb51. This will look nice on my Windows 98 box (or maybe on someone's wall)..

I'm sure this would make Nathan Lineback happy. :)

All of your replies are totally irrelevant to this thread! Its ashame people never have anything positive to say! I dont think you trollers are fully aware, without Windows 95, we would not have the Windows you're using today! I think it is a cool and nostalgic Wallpaper!

Nice wallpaper, I agree with you. Without Windows 95, today the computing world would not be what it is today. Windows 95' UI was a revolution that lead to the creation of Windows 7 and in my own opinion, Windows 8 is devolution unfortunately (in terns of desktop oriented commuting).

Do you remember Windows 95's IE4 desktop update? - It gave us the Quick Launch, flat toolbar buttons in Windows Explorer with the IE logo on the top right corner etc. How cool was that!? :D I remember getting excited about it at the time.

That practically was Windows 98's UI on top of Windows 95 (as far as I am aware).

I would choose Windows 98's UI anytime (that worked reliably and logically) over today's latest and greatest KDE 4 and GNOME 3 which has no common sense or any logic whatsoever (in my own opinion). I am not talking about OS stability, I am talking about GUI in general.

Oooooh Windows 95 had the best startup sound of all Windows, by freakin' far. 'Tis was a true work of art. I've had 10 years of formal musical training and I can tell you that it's really epic sweet. Ok? It's good. There.

Too bad it was compressed in 8-bit wav (like pretty much all sound at that time, mp3 was too heavy to be decoded in real-time, so everything was raw PCM, but mono 8-bit. It was terrible.).

Some insight into its composition (from Raymond Chen's blog):

Q: How did you come to compose "The Microsoft Sound"?

A: The idea came up at the time when I was completely bereft of ideas. I'd been working on my own music for a while and was quite lost, actually. And I really appreciated someone coming along and saying, "Here's a specific problem -- solve it."

The thing from the agency said, "We want a piece of music that is inspiring, universal, blah-blah, da-da-da, optimistic, futuristic, sentimental, emotional," this whole list of adjectives, and then at the bottom it said "and it must be 3 1/4 seconds long."

I thought this was so funny and an amazing thought to actually try to make a little piece of music. It's like making a tiny little jewel.

In fact, I made 84 pieces. I got completely into this world of tiny, tiny little pieces of music. I was so sensitive to microseconds at the end of this that it really broke a logjam in my own work. Then when I'd finished that and I went back to working with pieces that were like three minutes long, it seemed like oceans of time.

Windows 95 is my favorite OS, even more than the modern ones! It is represents simple times! It also represents really the start of what we are using now!

What I find so funny is that I remember when 95 came out.

People then were asking

How will I find all my programs if they are not icons in Windows on my desktop?

Microsoft answered - In the start menu is where you will find all your programs... think of it as one big folder with all the links.

Then Microsoft added a quick launch as well as gadgets that later became tiles...

Now with Windows 8 people ask .... Where is the start menu? to which Microsoft replies.. they are now Tiles which is the new start menu accessed by the corners of the screen....

Which if one were to think about it... those Icons have become the start menu and the desktop.

I personally don't like simple times :) I like technology and advancements. I have sympathy for Windows 95 but I would not use it.

Start menu and icons don't require an entire context switch to access nor takes up the whole screen.

Start menu and icons don't require an entire context switch to access nor takes up the whole screen.

Uhm wrong hit your windows key-- and tell me the icon's don't fill the screen -- just like it used to be inside a window on the desktop on 3.1. (and you also have to move your cursor to the left and click- so there again it is the extra context switch also)

And I was actually stating how people complained about the icons not being on the desktop anymore... and how people got used to using the start menu but now the icons are back.

Just look at the old Windows 3.1 - especially the Packard Bell version. They used to place all the icons inside a Window that would be on the Desktop- The only separate ones were the control panel.

It would auto maximize filling the screen just like the new Tiles on the New Start menu in Windows 8.

I can actually say that I used Dos 4.0 through Windows 3.1, NT 3.51 , NT 4.0 , 95,98,ME. through Windows 8.

So for me this is the return of the ICONS to the desktop.

The sound was very relaxing and therapeutic.

I've added it.

Forgot to add, however here is a small file (no installation required) than can change your start-up sound without going through hacks,

I had never thought about the Start screen like that... It's very accurate.

Here's another vote for liking the simple things. I like technology and advancements, but that usually turns into full blown bloat now a days!!

I've always hated those stupid windows startup, log off, log in, shut down sounds are they are still disabled almost immediately to this day!!

@OP:

I haven't seen that logo anywhere in years. Thanks for the flash back

Never did like that Bliss wallpaper it somehow lacked a theme for me

Ah yes Windows 3.1 where you had to install Dos first and manually configure hardware support, those were the days where being a geek was hard work.Windows 95 improved over the three editions and became a lot more user friendly which brought us into Windows 98 multi tasking on onwards and upwards to Windows 8 with its backward steps on user friendliness. In its day Windows 95 was a real innovative eye opener for many used to staring at a blank Dos screen full of white text and nothing in the way of an image or icon.

    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
    • Hello, Bonjour is Apple's implementation of a multicast-DNS service, which allows devices running Apple's software and/or hardware to find each other on your local network.  I believe the Windows version was last updated around 2010. If you do not need it, you can stop and disable the Bonjour service in the Services Control Manager (filename: SERVICES.MSC).  Once you have done that, the operating system will no longer attempt to load the service. • This AMD RX 9070 16GB GPU that performs close to Nvidia 5070 is under $600 by Sayan Sen With the memory shortage that's prevalent nowadays, discounts are super-hard to get. As such we post good deals whenever they pop up. Recently, we covered a few great discounts on SSDs wherein you can get a 4TB TeamGroup NVMe PCIe Gen4 drive for just $400 thanks to a special coupon. If you want a faster product but don't need all that capacity, you can also opt for Samsung's 990 PRO 2TB that is on sale for its lowest price in over three months. Let's say though that you are on the hunt for a 1440p gaming card. In that case AMD's RX 9070 non-XT can help, and with its 16GB VRAM, you can also run AI models locally without worrying about bottlenecking (check out our recent 9070 GRE reviews for gaming and productivity to get an idea). The PowerColor Reaper variant of the RX 9070 is currently on sale for just $580 which is a very good price in the current state of affairs (purchase link under the specs table down below). The Reaper cooler on this 9070 uses a triple‑fan design with ring‑blade fans, paired with premium dual ball bearings to extend lifespan and reduce friction. "Intelligent" fan control allows the fans to remain idle at lower temperatures, only spinning up when the GPU is under load. A nickel‑plated copper base makes direct contact with both the GPU and memory modules, helping to spread heat evenly. PowerColor also applies Honeywell PTM7950 phase‑change thermal interface material (TIM), which fills microscopic gaps between the die and heatsink for more efficient thermal transfer. The fan shroud is shorter in height as the firm has made it such that it can be used in certain SFF (small form factor) cases. The technical specifications of the Reaper RX 9070 are given in the table below: Specification Value Stream Processors 3584 Units Video Memory 16GB GDDR6 Memory Speed 20.0 Gbps Memory Interface 256-bit Engine Clock Game Clock: up to 2070 MHz Boost Clock: up to 2520 MHz Bus Standard PCI Express 5.0 x16 Display Connectors 1 x HDMI 2.1b, 3 x DisplayPort 2.1a Maximum Resolution DisplayPort: 7680 × 4320 HDMI: 7680 × 4320 Board Dimensions 289mm × 111mm × 41mm 304mm × 127mm × 42mm (with bracket) Slot 2 Minimum System Power Requirement 600W Power Connectors Two 8-pin PCI Express Get the PowerColor Reaper RX 9070 at the links below (you get only a 90-day warranty on Woot): PowerColor Reaper Radeon RX 9070 16GB Graphics Card (RX9070 16G-A): $579.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $700) PowerColor Reaper Radeon RX 9070 16GB Graphics Card (RX9070 16G-A): $559.99 (Sold and Shipped by Woot US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified. • Are they marketed as an entry into astronomy or astrophotography? I do astrophotography. With big rigs, lots of computers, cables and headaches. I love it. And by learning this ridiculously complex hobby, I’ve learned about the objects I’m shooting. Astronomy followed from photography.
    • Microsoft confirms Recycle Bin bug across all versions of Windows by Usama Jawad A couple of days ago, we reported that the latest Patch Tuesday update has seemingly resulted in a lot of issues for many users, including OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, and BSODs. Although Microsoft is yet to acknowledge these bugs, it has confirmed another, relatively smaller issue across all supported versions of Windows. In an update on its Windows Release Health Dashboard, Microsoft has confirmed that after installing June's Patch Tuesday update (KB5094126), you'll experience unexpected behavior when leveraging Recycle Bin. Basically, when you attempt to delete an item from the Recycle Bin, the confirm dialog will show you the internal file name of that content rather than the actual name. For example, the file may be named abc.png, but the confirm dialog will ask if you're sure that you want to permanently delete $Rxxxxx.png from the Recycle Bin. This is pretty much it for the scope of the bug itself; it just displays the wrong name in the confirm dialog. The correct name will be shown in the list view of the Recycle Bin and if you restore the file, it will return with the correct name as well. This issue affects pretty much all supported versions of Windows client and server, including: Client: Windows 11, version 26H1; Windows 11, version 25H2; Windows 11, version 24H2; Windows 11, version 23H2; Windows 10, version 22H2; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 Server: Windows Server 2025; Windows Server 2022; Windows Server 2019; Windows Server 2016; Windows Server 2012 R2; Windows Server 2012 As things currently stand, Microsoft is working on a concrete solution that will be released in a "future" Windows update. It remains to be seen if the firm will wait till the next Patch Tuesday or roll out an out-of-band (OOB) fix. The good news is that commercial customers can deploy a workaround right now, but they will have to reach out to Microsoft Support for Business for additional details.
