Windows 8 Start screen search

Question

Ok guys, call me stupid, but I'm having a slight issue. Everything was running great on my Windows 8 install but now when I go to the Start screen and being typing to bring up an app (for example Notepad), I now have to type "notepad" in full for search to find it where as I used to be able to put in the "n-o-t" from notepad and it would recognise it. I've had a look around for settings but can't seem to find anything, am I just having a blonde moment or have others come across this before?

Exactly my issue! I never had to type the full word also so I don't know what's up. I haven't tried a refresh yet as I'd prefer to find the cause of the problem before I resort to just a clean slate. Surely a setting\app\update has caused this issue and I'd like to know what it is

I'm the same as Relativity_17 - start typing not and notepad and Notepad plus come up on the search screen. That's kinda weird. Of course, last week, I couldn't get any App Updates to install, but I finally got that issue worked out.

Like I said, that used to be the case for me also but suddenly Windows doesn't want to play ball :(

There's a setting for this which must've been changed (did you change it? Or did something you install mess with it?)

To get to the setting, search for "search" in Settings, then click "Change search options for files and folders." Then check "Find partial matches" (which is on by default).

BAM! Worked a treat! I definitely didn't change that option as I know I've never been in that screen before so something I installed must have messed with it. Weird too because it's a relatively clean install (less than a month)

None the less, it's fixed and if it happens again I know what it was.

Many thanks!

Today I learned! I wonder how it got changed in the first place.

That's one thing that bugs me about settings sync. If something gets buggered in settings on one computer, it propagates to my other computers. :-\ First world problems.
