Xbox 720 unveiling in two stages, 'tons of exclusive games for E3'

Recommended Posts

The new Xbox will be unveiled in two stages and release this holiday, a Microsoft executive has revealed.

Teasing the imminent next-generation Xbox unveiling, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg said that the platform will be unveiled on May 21, while 'tons of exclusive games' will be shown at the E3 gaming expo.

"We're really going to tell one story across two events," Greenberg told Major Nelson (via VideoGamer).

"So we're going to start on the 21st, and really that's about revealing the next Xbox platform; our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment.

"We definitely have a lot of surprises planned. I know everyone knows the Infinity Ward team is hard at work on world premiering Call of Duty: Ghosts, so we're going to see what that looks like for the first time.

"People are going to get a great inside look at the making of the new platform and the team that's brought it to life. To be honest, it's really about the team, the people here.

"That's why we're inviting people to campus; we're going to bring them behind the scenes a little bit."

Greenberg said that while the May 21 event is about laying the foundations, E3 will be focused on the software.

"We've never done this before and so it's really exciting to be able to do that. It's a lot of laying the foundation, probably the best way to describe it. And then just a couple of weeks later we go to E3," he said.

"E3 is all about the games. At E3, I mean, if you're a gamer, it's going to be tons of exclusives, world premieres, and obviously even beyond that we have a lot to share between then and this holiday."

Microsoft recently registered a host of web domains including the word 'Fusion', sparking rumours that this will be the name of the upcoming console.

However, sources close to the development of the console have suggested that it will be called 'Xbox Infinity'.

Reported features for the new Xbox include Kinect 2.0, 3D technology and the long-rumoured Xbox TV.

I don't think they have much choice, with it being broadcast live on the TV they only have an hours slot, first reveal the box and its services, maybe a couple of games and leave the big reveal for E3.

Never been this excited for a generation reveal, I hope all the trash talk is debunked (no used games, always online, etc..) and that it is as fast if not faster than PS4 so there will be no games that are coded for the lowest common denominator.

Next gen baby!

Thankfully already debunked. Yup i'm really looking forward to it. I was open to whichever console was the best and i'd go for that one, but i found the PS4's to be a bit 'meh' and the build up to the next XBOX already seems much more exciting so it's really about waiting and seeing what happens.

Should be good!

"Tons of exclusives" huh? We'll see, i guess. Hope they manage to hold up to that claim(especially when they have no worthwhile exclusives to round out the 360's last year). As well as not post disappointing specs.

I wonder if they are actually going to reveal the console.. or pull another Sony.

Yes, cause not showing the case, which is largely irrelevant, means they "didn't reveal anything".

But why would MS spend a lot of money for exclusives on and outgoing generation, when they could instead buy up exclusives for the next platform generation. 360 exclusives made no sense last year, they already outsold the PS3 majorly in the US, for europe they where either tied or slightly ahead every month, Japan just wasn't going to happen anymore no matter what the exclusives, they're to nationalistic.

MS has already shown before they have no problems paying for exclusives when there is a need and point to it. last year, wasn't.

So wouldn't it be a form of nationalism because the 360 sells more in America? Isn't it a bit of a double standard to turn a blind eye to it in one country and then turn around and claim it happens elsewhere?

By 'the 360's last year" i mean the year leading up to the launch of the new xbox. That would include a little of last year, yes, but it's mostly this year.

Anyway, Just cause it's somehow still selling well in the us doesn't mean it's ok for them to basically give up on the system and stop putting out anything exclusive for it in its final year. Imo, sony is doing a much better job with the end of the ps3's life by still giving you (exclusive) stuff to play up until the launch of the next gen.

That doesn't really apply to the US, not when the Wii was selling like hotcakes unless you want to forget about that bit of history.

So ps2 trailed Xbox in US? It doesn't happen as much as it does in Japan (at least on the surface of it).

I can't think of any particularly great 360 exclusives. They play it pretty safe with exclusives: Gears and Halo. I hope they abandon that route this time around and actually put cash into interesting exclusives. Not more Space Marine type ****.

having a 99% marketshare is hardly the same as PS3/X360 in America is it...

How is exlcusives doing better or even a positive thing anyway.

Look t the first 3 years of the 360.

Look t the first 3 years of the 360.

So 2005-2008?

I don't see anything particularly awesome. Project Gotham Racing 4 & Forza, maybe. Halo 3 was Sept. 2007. GoW2 Nov. 2008.

I don't know how complete this list is but there isn't a lot of greatness there (especially from your time frame). What games from that time frame do you consider to be great exclusives?

PGR3, PGR4, Kameo, Crackdown, Forza 2, Saints Row, PDZ was supposedly great, DoA4, Amped was loved by the snowboarders who wanted a less SSX experience, GoW naturally, Ninja Gaiden, Lost Odyssey, Too Human(yes I liked it)

there seems to be a few missing from that list as I recall though.

compare it to the same timeframe on the PS3, first year nothing, naturally, and the next two years, well not spotting any awesome exclusives there. the point is that the money spent on exclusives drop of heavily towards the launch of a new generation though.

Mass Effect and Bioshock should be in that list :)

I don't get why people count exclusives as the only thing that matters on a console. During 2005-2008, the PS3 was an incredibly expensive console and not as mature as the 360 - Xbox had a fully up and running online service, achievements, centralised DLC system... PS3 didn't have the luxuries we have right now, such as Trophies or PS+. The 360 was the overall more compelling system choice, so naturally, even multi-platform games swung moreso in the 360's favour. Plus, the PS3 wasn't even available in 2005, and for the overwhelming majority of 2006 (or if you're in Europe, not at all). The 360 had some great console-exclusives which didn't always cater to the demographic the Xbox was searching for - Kameo, Blue Dragon, Katamari Damacy and Viva Pinata spring to mind (and probably others), which is why people think that the first few years were all FPS FPS FPS FPS FPS. In fact, I'm willing to bet the FPS genre had fewer great games then all other genres combined, but people (mostly fanboys) don't care to see it this way.

This time around however, the next gen Xbox and Playstation will be releasing at the same time, and while we don't know what MS has planned, Sony have some great things planned for the console, and even prefer genre-neutrality then the FPS FPS FPS FPS mentality. Comparing the launches of the PS3/360 and the PS4/720 make no sense at all.

I don't get why people count exclusives as the only thing that matters on a console.

Not the only thing, but I think it is one of the most important aspects. If you can only afford one console or the other the games available might be a deciding factor.

    • OpenClaw now has native mobile apps on iOS and Android by Karthik Mudaliar OpenClaw, the viral open-source personal AI agent, now has its own mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Users can pair the app with an existing OpenClaw gateway and can start using new mobile-native features that are now available on the app. The app supports all the existing features you'd already have seen on OpenClaw's TUI, as well as some more, such as real-time and background Talk mode, action approvals, sharing from iOS, and optional access to device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These features are available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. What's important with these apps is that they don't run OpenClaw on your phone, but are actually just companion apps that require a running OpenClaw Gateway on an existing device, on macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2. To pair the app with your existing OpenClaw gateway, users need to run the command "/pair qr" on the TUI or existing chat interface, which brings up a QR code. Users can then scan this QR code to pair it up with the mobile app. There's also an option to manually pair the app by entering the host and a port. Previously, OpenClaw had been available on phones via WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix, and others. Now, with a native mobile app, the interface is much cleaner and more focused on just the OpenClaw, of course, with the added support for camera, screen, location, and more. It's important to note that OpenClaw comes with its own security warnings. There's always a chance of prompt injection with these tools, so users are recommended to double-check authentication, tool policy, sandboxing, and execution approvals rather than prompts alone. For users well-versed with the AI harness, a native mobile app makes it easier to approve an automation, share a link, use voice, or let an agent react to phone-side context.
    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
