I just finished fixing the hardware on a friends laptop. I would like to set up something so that I can access the laptop whenever he needs me. Other than Windows assistance, is anything I can install to make it very easy and free?

If he is at home, that will mess up the server. For instance, he will have a local IP address, and if I am at home, there will be a problem.

http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx is what your after. Doesn't need to be even installed, he can just run it and read off a couple of numbers to you when he needs you to connect.

Or it can be installed as service and you can connect whenever you want, etc.

LogMeIn is good too if you have them open an account and share the credential. (10 PC limit)
