The new Xbox One Microsoft unveiled looks alot like an updated Tivo with a disc slot! Maybe this was the design Microsoft was aiming for, to blend in with other video/audio hardware in the living/tv room.

That's exactly what's up. It will stack nicely with whatever folks are already using.

Shame you wont be able to stack it very well in a unit, because they've decided on top open vents again.

I was thinking it reminded me of a VCR actually.

It's not just a game console anymore, more of an all in one media center so it makes sense that it would fit in with your other AV components.

I wouldn't ever think of stacking any of my hardware components. I hate putting my router on top of my cable modem as it is... but I have no other option with the space in my gaming area :/
But as far as receiver, console, cable box, and such go, they are stackable, but I wouldn't and don't. I give them plenty of space to breath.
And with MS's track record on products faulting out, I wouldn't even dare attempt stacking something on it.

True but covering any vents at all would be very bad I think.

Why the hell would you want to cover the vents? Vents are there for a reason....I don't think I should have to tell you what those reasons are.

Depends how the fans are oriented. The 360 had fans sucking air out the back, so if the One is similar, then only a small amount of ambient air will float out the top.

I must admit I kind of weep, I mean yes given the side vents it will stack okay with my Sky TV Box and replace my blu ray player, but It feels equally like a sign of gaming growing up a little too soon. It doesn't have the coolness factor anymore. I am going to have to convince my youngest parent at 40 something to allow one in their living room no matter what it looks like.... Their trying for the generic living room thing when id ague most gamers are still under 40 and would not have a problem with "a device to play games among other things" in the living room not looking what's the word "passive" you wouldn't know it was a console yes it does tv and all that but it doesn't stand out. It does remind me of an old VCR.

I really like the design. Will look good under the TV or in a cabinet/rack.

It looks like a throwback to a time when electronics had style.
