That's exactly what's up. It will stack nicely with whatever folks are already using.

I wouldn't ever think of stacking any of my hardware components. I hate putting my router on top of my cable modem as it is... but I have no other option with the space in my gaming area :/

But as far as receiver, console, cable box, and such go, they are stackable, but I wouldn't and don't. I give them plenty of space to breath.

And with MS's track record on products faulting out, I wouldn't even dare attempt stacking something on it.

I must admit I kind of weep, I mean yes given the side vents it will stack okay with my Sky TV Box and replace my blu ray player, but It feels equally like a sign of gaming growing up a little too soon. It doesn't have the coolness factor anymore. I am going to have to convince my youngest parent at 40 something to allow one in their living room no matter what it looks like.... Their trying for the generic living room thing when id ague most gamers are still under 40 and would not have a problem with "a device to play games among other things" in the living room not looking what's the word "passive" you wouldn't know it was a console yes it does tv and all that but it doesn't stand out. It does remind me of an old VCR.

I sort of miss when game consoles were just game consoles. They didn't play CDs and DVDs and Netflix, web browsing, etc. You just plugged in a cartridge and had fun. The SNES is still probably my favorite of all time, but then I guess I'm getting old. I think I'll go yell at some clouds.

It looks like a throwback to a time when electronics had style.

Actually, it looks similar to the Tivo Premiere line case-wise - which isn't a bad thing.

Has anyone ever thought about one thing that attracts people to buy a Tivo OTHER than the service?

Here's something that would doubtless be surprising to all too many coming from a Premiere owner (specifically, me) - the Tivo service was not even on the radar when I pulled the trigger and bought a Premiere.

Other than making sure that my Premiere wouldn't be a brick without using the service, it's because (unlike all too many STBs today) it wouldn't call attention to itself amid my other hardware.

The Premiere (all of them) is unobtrusive. It's black finish and generic shape sits there quietly.

Set-top boxes (not alone those of cable - it applies equally to satellite) stick out like sore thumbs - the last STB that didn't were the older Moto DCT-22xx series. (That very fact that they sit there behaving - when they worked - was a big advantage.)

Gaming consoles (all of the current generation) do stand out in absolutely the most bothersome of ways. PS3 (even the Slim) due to its shape. XB360? Shape and COLOR. Don't get me started on the Wii!

XB ONE has a piano-black finish - like most home-theater hardware today, and especially HDTVs. (We have four flat-panel LCD HDTVs - two 32", one 40" and one 55" - all have that same piano-black finish. And they are of three different brands - Emerson (32"), Samsung (32" and 55") and Sony (40"). Since when are gaming consoles a frigging fashion statement?

XB ONE's finish and color fits in. It doesn't call attention to itself. As long as it works, it SHOULDN'T call attention to itself.

Finally! Someone at a gaming-console company actually gets the point.

Actually, it looks similar to the Tivo Premiere line case-wise - which isn't a bad thing.

I never said it didn't, but it also looks similar to a VCR and some hi-fi electronics we had in the 1980s.

I never said it didn't, but it also looks similar to a VCR and some hi-fi electronics we had in the 1980s.

And that is bad why?

I bought my first VCR (VHS) in 1987 - while it had most of the check-boxes for a VHS VCR of the time, it wasn't flashy. Quite honestly, it got a LOT of use, and held up - for over a decade. At that time, A/V gear was about function - not fashion or flash. (One of my favorite lines of home theater equipment of the same period was from, of all companies, Sony - function over flash, and reasonably priced. Same applied to the *classic* BOSE x01 speakers - from the flagship 901 to the bookshelf 301s. I know of one set of 501s that are in their fourth decade, and still going strong.)

The style (yes, there is one) is called *minimalist* - one of the biggest modern-day practitioners is, in fact, Apple (the Mac Pro and MacBooks are examples) along with Tivo (the entire Premiere line, including the monster XL4, is in the minimalist style). The idea behind minimalist design is that, as long as its working properly, it doesn't stand out. I actually admire the XBOX ONE for not giving into *fashion over function* - which, UNfortunately, the two previous generations followed to a fault (some would say, with their RROD/RSOD issues, all too slavishly). Sony is just as guilty with the PS3 (even the Slim) - if you pair the XB360 with Kinect (or PS3 with Move) it looks like what it is - a hodgepodge/kludge. *Yecccch*

It does anything BUT say (let alone scream) "Look at me - I'm a gaming console!". I haven't seen a game console this UNDERstated since the ATARI 5200 and follow-on 7800. (That was one thing I actually admired the 5200 for - the minimalist design. It also didn't hurt that - until ATARISOFT - their ports were the closest thing to the original arcade versions.)

And that is bad why?

I said above (which you quoted by the way) "It looks like a throwback to a time when electronics had style.", so walk me though the thought process, that brought you to the conclusion, that I implied I think the Xbox One's style (which I don't need schooling on, thanks) is "bad".

I was NOT referring to you at all - I was referring to some of the critics (in this thread and others) that seem to think that gaming consoles should be flashy. Considering the issues that both the original XBOX and XB360 had with reliability, you would think that some would prefer a console that didn't call attention to itself.

Ahhh yeah, exactly. That's what MS said. They want it to be the main device in everyone's living room.

It looks exactly how it should look. Looks awesome IMO. Actually looks like a Cable/Satellite HD PVR.

People seem to forget or just can't fathom the idea that MS wants to target a larger audience. Not everyone is a gamer.
