Now if only the Xbox allowed my keyboard and mouse to work with it...

Most USB / USB wireless keyboards work with the Xbox 360.

Wired 360 controller. Just plug it in and it works.

If you have a wireless one, you'll need the wireless receiver

I have a wireless one and charge and play kit. I use it to attach to USB port in Xbox and charge while playing

Can it work?

No, the play and charge kit for the 360 controller is just for charging only, it does not transmit data.  You'll therefore either need a USB controller, or a wireless adapter for your Wireless controller.

the wireless adapter is pretty close to the price of a whole new controller for windows.....

As mentioned you can either get a whole new controller (wired) to use with Windows, or get a wireless adapter designed to allow wireless Xbox 360 controllers to work with Windows. I personally got the adapter because I already had two controllers and didn't need another, nor did I want the wires to do with. Works well.
