vip
Hey Neowin, I've missed you! I've had an iMac for about four years now and it's getting dated. I want to build a new computer and have put together this configuration. I basically want it to play games, stream and do some video and audio editing. I also want it to last for a while. This is what I've put together, any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm at about 1800 right now and don't want to go over that much unless it will be a significant upgrade to a component.Edit: well I thought I could post pictures from my cell, I will be home in about 15 minutes then I will post components, sorry! Edit2: Ok, here is the part list. +PeterUK MVC Posted September 26, 2013 MVC Share Posted September 26, 2013 Most of that looks good heres what I would say about the other stuff: Video Card So SLi with GTX 650 Ti might be good for games that support SLi but its a weak if you need to run on one card better to go at least GTX 760 or just get one GTX 770 and do SLi later. Motherboard You get everything you need from a ASUS P8Z77-V LK (not LX) or GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H (not D3H). OS Windows 7 64 bit.
vip
Thank you for your input and reply. Sorry for my late reply, work overload! I've tweaked it a bit and went with this video card for now ... haven't ordered yet, a couple more weeks. Right now my total is at 1850. I don't plan on going much above that if possible. new video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121770 new psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139051 Also, why windows 7 over windows 8? I thought MS said they weren't going to support 7 as long as they did XP. So eventually I would have to upgrade right? Why not now? edit: also, why not go with the mobo I chose? I rather like it, and it looks nice, well built and has great reviews.
+PeterUK MVC Posted October 6, 2013 MVC Share Posted October 6, 2013 new video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121770 new psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139051 Video card and PSU looks good should last you a good few years. Also, why windows 7 over windows 8? I thought MS said they weren't going to support 7 as long as they did XP. So eventually I would have to upgrade right? Why not now? If you want too fine but its a big change that I don't like them doing which is fine if people want a interface to be better for touch screen fine but thats all it really is I don't like what they did with the TCP/IP stack as it is in win 7 and I'm pretty sure they broke something that works in XP and I hate to even try win 8 in case their are things in win 7 you can do that you can't in win 8. Its a bit like me saying go with a Haswell CPU & mobo so why have you not done that? edit: also, why not go with the mobo I chose? I rather like it, and it looks nice, well built and has great reviews. Cost for what your getting to what you need and will use from it.
Andre S. Veteran Posted October 6, 2013 Veteran Share Posted October 6, 2013 Go with Windows 8. It starts up faster, Battlefield 4 performs better in it and likely other games taking advantage of the latest Direct3D features will too. It's just the more recent, up-to-date OS. If you don't like the new UI you can easily get rid of it and use Windows 8 just like a better Windows 7.
