Supervisor Posted October 11, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted October 11, 2013 Nah there are quarters and fiscal quarters, fiscal Q1 (usually) starts in April and runs to April the next year.I was just about to point this out. It's never made sense to me (although to be fair I've never taken the time to learn about why it is like this).
Yazoo
The year is split into 4 quarters, Q1 (quarter1) is Jan-Mar Q2 (quarter2) is Apr-Jun Q3 (quarter3) is Jul-Sep Q4 (quarter4) is Oct-Dec The above is what we follow in UK banking business, I know other countries start their quarter based on the fiscal year
Shaun N.
Think about it, 12 months... what number can you multiply by 4 to get 12? that's it!! 3 so a quarter is 3 months long

Anibal P
That's just weird. Why does the US gov. does that? According to Wikipedia it was to give Congress more time to come up with a budget (HA!) Shaun N. and Steven P. 2 Share
Pupik
According to Wikipedia it was to give Congress more time to come up with a budget (HA!) Heh, totally makes sense. Makes the year longer, if you start it earlier :D

episode
I've won Early Access for Carmageddon: Reincarnation and it states Q1 2014. Business-wise, I remember hearing that actually means the end of 2013. I could be wrong, though. In reality, it depends on the business. Some businesses start their fiscal years in months other than Jan. When they do that, they usually just refer to their quarters as Q1, Q2, etc, without including the actual year. When you're looking at a game release date, however, thats going to be calendar year.
Roger H. Veteran Posted October 11, 2013 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2013 I've won Early Access for Carmageddon: Reincarnation and it states Q1 2014. Business-wise, I remember hearing that actually means the end of 2013. I could be wrong, though. You are confusing fiscal quarters vs calendar quarters. Fiscal quarters can be anytime the company has set. I think Apple fiscal year ends in June while Microsoft ends in September or something like that. So a Fiscal quarter can be July-September for Apple in this case or March to June for another company. (FYI - I'm just guessing, didn't look up the exact times but I know their fiscal years end different than calendar years :p)
