BoDEAN
I've been having all sorts of fun with my NAS and I feel like I haven't even tapped into an ounce of potential that this Synology NAS has. What sorts of cool things are you doing with yours besides just storing and backing up data?
+BudMan MVC Posted January 18, 2014 MVC Share Posted January 18, 2014 It's a NAS ;) Other than using it as storage, what do you think it should do? So you can access your files via ftp, http, maybe webdav.. Maybe it will stream media files.. I just pull mine off my nas via smb to my media player ;) So quick look at features - one cool thing I see, does your support "Glacier Backup".. That is pretty slick way to archive your data off to amazon for DR.. http://www.synology.com/en-us/products/spec/DS413j What specific model do you have? It being dns, dhcp for your network seems pointless since normally router would do that. Most of the other features, like vpn etc. again I would think your router would do that. Guess I am just boring - Its a NAS, it should store files and allow me to access them.. Other than I have no use for it to do anything else ;) Looks like you could run a p2p client on it you want. Is that the sort of thing your looking for?

zeke009
On the NetGear ReadyNAS devices you can use it as a web server in addition to being a storage unit. I was using the one I have for Joomla, IP.Board and Drupal learning/curiosity/testing.
neo1911
I use Qnap TS-412 4 drives of 2 TB each in Raid10 mode. The coolest thing I did was to add torrents to it's built in app called Transmission using an android phone while I was away on a holiday. It had done downloading when I returned home after a week.
