devnulllore
Hi, I have three external HDD's, two are USB 3.0 and one is 2.0. The 2.0 I leave unplugged until I need it but the 3.0 drives are always plugged in. I've read conflicting opinions that leaving any external drives plugged in can drag your overall system response as every time you run any programs or do any access, even on other drives, Windows checks all the drives, for what I don't know. What's the truth here? Thanks!
D!ABOL!C
It's probably the power saver feature on the drives that stops the disks from spinning. I have an internal drive that stops spinning as well as an external drive and the only time I notice it, is if I try to access a file on the drives and I haven't used them, or when shutting down. The drives take a few seconds to spin up. This is my experience with what you have going on.
devnulllore
I have never turn off hard drives set in power settings. Does this include externals?
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 11, 2014 Moderator Share Posted April 11, 2014 Most externals spin down hard drives when not in use.
