Gone
So as I am about to switch back to my old (2 year old) Windows 7 laptop (HP G6), I am having a very annoying problem. When I am downloading files (I use Google Chrome), Internet Explorer and Chrome will hang up when trying to load websites until the file is completely downloaded. Is there anything that would somehow cause this? It happens no matter what browser I use, and it is driving me crazy. I thought I was an advanced user but I've never experienced this. I very much doubt that my internet is too slow, as my wife's laptop (A five year old Dell) and my Mac don't have this issue.
The Evil Overlord
Is it running wired to your internet connection?
Gone
No, it is wireless. The only thing wired is my Xbox 360  .
The Evil Overlord
my first guess would be interference to your wifi, causing in connection drop, if possible, could you try wired and see if the problem is fixed? (slightly related, I used to have a belkin wifi adapter for my son's pc <too lazy to pull up floorboards and run a wire> and it began dropping signal until one day it died, I replaced it with a cisco one and he's not had any trouble since, I'm not saying you might have a dying wifi component, but it would help in eliminating the wifi, another possibility could be the driver) also some thing else, I've noticed a wired 'hang up' occasionally when uploading large files to dropbox, so if you have any sort of cloud sync or similar, could you try exiting that, and try to download again?? Gone
Thank you all, I believe it may be the wifi card. Good thing that this laptop has three different versions of it, I'll probably get an Atheros card rather than the Ralink.About to try the internet repair tool first!
