Even though this is an Assassins Creed clone right down to the animations used I'm still looking forward to it.

I just finished Assassins Creed 3 not long before getting this.  This is certainly similar but I'm having a hell of a lot more fun in it.

Rock on.  Guess AC4 can wait.

Picking this up on PS4, definitely a "sleeper hit".

Even if the new AC game is good, getting annoyed at Ubisoft pumping the hell out of them. A new setting with visceral gore? Yup I'll give it a go. I love a bit of gore.

From what I've read 900p on XB1, 1080p on PS4.

Playing the PC version of it (up to 4K if your system has the muscle for it), it's a blast.. familiar mechanics but an excellent presentation and a lot of fun. Fairly juicy at times too.

I'd have bought the X1 version but I don't actually have the X1 yet heh.  I don't even have a 3GB card yet for the next step up o.o

This definitely a sleeper hit considering destiny being around.

I'm going to pock this up soon. It looks like they have taken elements of AC and the Arkham games for movement and combat, but not in a cheap way. It looks well done. Plus, the whole system of working to break down the orc hierarchy looks great.

Especially since I literally have nothing I can complain about.  From what I gather people aren't saying the same about Destiny.

I like Monolith, but when I see Middle Earth I generally yawn these days.  This was one hell of a surprise.  :)

Pretty kick ass game so far. I played about 90 minutes last night, and only really wound up doing the first two campaign missions. The rest of the time was spent going around getting used to the mechanics and leveling up by taking out random enemies. I am pretty sure the whole nemesis system will be copied by other open world games at some point, it is a really novel take on the enemy AI.

The only negative thing I can say is right now the combat is a tad to easy, but I am sure that is the game just letting it be easy for now.

I died within about 5 minutes when I first started the game, and I have not died since, and I have taken on a group of at least 15 enemies at once including a captain. Once you get the blocking down, which will be pretty quick, combat is very easy. Again though, I am sure that is going to change and I am just fighting very low level enemies right now.

Really very surprised by the whole game. I am not a huge LOtR person, so I am pretty much judging the game on whether it is a good video game or not, and so far so good.

Awesome, I trust your opinion DL as you're the most impartial gamer I know lol.

My copy should be here soon.

Thanks AB, it is much appreciated that you say that as I have always tried my best over the years to just tell it like it is. I know some people here believe that means anti MS, which is not the case at all, I just am not shy in criticizing them when I feel it is justified to do so.

Enjoy the game when you get it. (Y)

The combat does get harder as they introduce more enemy types down the road.  I've been playing quite some time and still haven't managed to take out more than one Warchief.

That was a good intro! No messing about there to set the tone \m/

I love games that make minimal, but good usage of the DS4 speaker. Don't know why but I think Sony using a decent quality speaker on the DS4 does add to the immersion at times.

Having a blast with it here. haven't been a huge fan of AC or Batman, from which this game can be said to draw a few mechanics and inspiration from, but overall finding it very enjoyable.  Have barely done any missions, just running around the map doing all the side quests.  From a technical point of view I guess the combat is a bit repetitive, I can see some people getting bored with this quickly in that regard but overall a few hours in and im still enjoying the big brawls, there's a reasonable amount of enemies that have different tactics required so keeps things interesting.

The nemesis system is also a nice twist, doesn't make getting your ass kicked as frustrating knowing the challenge has increased and defeating them when you finally do will be all the sweeter.  Was really pumped when I noticed one of the captains that kicked my arse had become immune to range attacks and gained some abilities, made me have to adapt and try some new tactics.

For me the only disappointing things so far has been the PC Controls and UI, it has what I would call a port ui, the same ui you see for all these games where they've been ported to or from console.  Just bugs me that no extra polish goes in to remove this vibe.  either way a minor gripe.

I am however impressed with how good this thing looks and runs (on low settings) on my old banged up pc chugging along with a mechanical drive and a lowly 1GB 6850 still :p

can't you just play with controller?   i know i got one and it improved my experience in many games greatly.       i still LOVE mouse in keyboard, but only in the games designed for it.

You could and some have said this is one of those games that lends itself to a controller but I think its fair to say most on a PC will likely be playing with M&KB so why not just take the time to polish the UI for it.  Its a small criticism and not just of this game as I said a lot of games have this very similar look and layout where the porting has occurred

Copying my post from GAF

Man this game is awesome. Going to take that point above to focus on story though as I've been sidetracked for the past hour.

Died 3 times. I was strolling around and bam a captain appears, doing okay against him and then one of my nemesis' comes running in to help, so two captains! The first one ran away scared though, and I managed to kill my nemesis.

So I'm interested to know, after reading the comments from the Ubi employee on plagarism claims, how similar is it to Assassin's Creed?

As much as any other open world game would be really.

Plagarism is a stretch. You can definitely compare, I think Ubisoft are just acting like they own the genre due to Assassins Creed flooding, and throwing their toys out their pram as this game is getting a spotlight. The nemesis system shows the developers had their main own idea, and all they did really was do the things that make an open world game good - Fast, easy and sticky vertical transversal, map marking, collectables for exp, an easy to use but satisfying combat system (which can handle masses of enemies attacking at once) etc.

The playstyle is very similar sure (personally executed better in SoM.)   But plagiarism?  Shoot there's a gazillion games "plagiarizing" the classics, a fair majority of them have probably had a similar game in the 80's and 90's (or even further) if you look hard enough.  That's assuming actual code or media assets weren't ripped off of course, that's something else entirely.

Yeah, maybe they'd have a point if Crackdown and Arkham City and so many others weren't using the same general formula.

They've got I don't know how many AC games launching this year, they'll just be wanting to kick up a fuss and get the headlines back to AC before launch. At least this game implements a cool new system, something different, that is why it's reviewing well as opposed to just being a clone of a generic formula.

Don't get me wrong, I loved AC Black Flag at launch, and hope the next title is good, but Ubisoft should embrace challengers in the realm of open world games, not act like crybabies.

IIRC that is what one of their coders was claiming. Something about the animations being used and that he would recognise it anywhere after working on it for so long.
