Ian W
Thank you very much for sharing this link, compl3x. Admittedly, I've not used Bitdefender before as I've almost always relied on either Avira or Windows Defender for real-time protection (though I have read some good things about the software). The link you posted will allow me to try a version of the software with more functionality for free. I even have a new wallpaper.
compl3x
Thanks for taking the time to say "thank you". I post stuff like this from time to time adn although the topic gets hundreds of views few people bother to say thanks. No big deal, but it doesn't motivate me to post free, useful stuff I find 'round the web. xrobwx71 and FiB3R 2 Share
T3X4S
I have read good things about Bitdefender as well. I have never tried it personally & you have to be careful what you read when it comes to A/V comparisons/reviews - there are so many bogus or biased websites out there (www.best-antivirus-2014.com, or www.best-pc-security-2014.com, and all those)What ?!?!?!?! McAfee is last ? OMG !! (still dont know why intel bought them) & dont know why webroot is never in these comparisons hmmmm :shifty: For the last 2 1/2 years I have been using webroot's Secure Anywhere & have no reason to change but, for others, its a nice offer (and a nice post compl3x BTW)
trag3dy
I'm undecided on the software personally. It's locked down a little too tight if you're not running an administrator account, which means I can't change most settings. And getting it to whitelist certain folders or files is a pain in the ass. Anyways, thanks for this, I was using the version from the last time a trial like this was posted so I'll see if I can get an upgrade.
The_Observer
Don't know if its any good, have read mixed reviews, but its free. http://www.bitdefender.com/media/html/softpedia-2015/ Enjoy Peps

The Evil Overlord
I'll pass. Only paid AV I would probably pay for would be NOD32 Same but then my system's very old so I have to balance good protection vs resources (so I use eset ss7 now)

Choto Cheeta
This is nice, thanks! so If i use 2 emails and get 2 licenses, i can use av for 18 months? :p No.. I got my key, and in the email, they said the key has to be activated within 30 days of receipt of the key.. After which it would expire.. So you have to use your registerted key within 30 days of registration.. So at max you can expend it for 30 days trail + 9 months.. But thats ok for me.. Will be using to to see really how good they are.. My Kaspersky license ran out and I was not keen to buy another year of KIS 2015 for their lack of user control over the application, so its a nice offer for me to try it out for a longer time and go ahead with the purchase if I like it.. FiB3R
Seems you can only get 4 keys from one IP address, before having to resort to something like Tor. It wouldn't accept the capcha, when trying to get a key via my mobile.

Choto Cheeta
Initial response of the software was fine.. Its My 3rd day with it and my desktop running Windows 7 SP1 x64 seems to have slowed down a little.. The BIS 2015 is taking considerable time to load it self in start up and at times certainly applications are acting up.. Infact, USB copying seems to have effected the most, not only just it has slowed down, but also at times it freezes the Windows explorer.. My system config, Intel C2Q Q6600 3.0 GHz (OC) 8GB DDR-III @ 1333 MHz (OC) Sandisk 32GB SSD Previously with Kaspersky, it was not lagging as with BIS 2015.. Disapointed.. Whats likely causing that is that it is scanning your USB device. You should be able to turn that "feature" off either altogether or as it scans (but you probably need to do it as admin). I had a similar issue when trying to open dvds. At least you could do that in the 2014 version. I feel like if you want to have a lot of control over what your security software does then bitdefender is probably a bad choice. On the other hand free is a really good price.. :B: Rex
i dont know how the security suite is but earlier this year i paid for their antivirus and boy was that a mistake it slowed my system down, made using the internet painful (just trying to connect to neowin would take 45 seconds) every webpage was made slow to load as its real time scanner had to check all pages to be sure they were safe. the settings in the options you selected were not followed it just did what it wanted after a week of problems and poor customer service i gave up and uninstalled it so they got my money and i fell for the hype i should have just used nod32 like i was going to and i do use it now i know some people like bit defenders products and if you do great but for me it was an awful experience
compl3x
Deal is expired. I', sorry to hear some have had bad experiences with BD, I've used it for years and have found it to be about the best AV/IS suite. Oh well.
trag3dy
I don't think it's bad. I just think that it's locked down a little too much if you're not running an admin account because you can't change most settings otherwise. You can't even mark events as read unless you're running as admin, which I find extremely odd. Unless there is a way to change that...I haven't found it if there is. And that's just for the 2014 version. I haven't used the 2015 version enough to form an opinion one way or the other yet.
compl3x
It's probably a good idea to lock down antivirus and internet security settings. Admins are probably the only ones who should be altering them.
Luc2k
I', sorry to hear some have had bad experiences with BD, I've used it for years and have found it to be about the best AV/IS suite. Oh well. I've also had a bad experience when I've tried it with the previous 9 month promo, as it was one of the most power-user unfliendly AVs I've ever used. I've felt like it was designed for the lowest common denominator with no thought given to those that want more control. While I'd need to reinstall to remember exactly how dumbed down it is, I did send them feedback about it. The bad points that I clearly remember were the considerable hit to websites' load speed and the false-positives. It detected some files that Flash Player's kit installed as infected for example. I might try it again in the future, but I doubt I'll like it unless they overhaul their approach to user control.
cork1958
Used the free version of their AV for quite some time not to long ago and installed on quite a few customer computers too. Haven't heard any complaints from any of those people yet. I no longer use it though as I like playing around with other AV's just to experiment. If I remember correctly, about the only complaint I had with it was you had be logged into an account through them all the time for it to work. All of my machines are old by the standards most other Neowinians have, but BD never slowed down my computers.

Most AV/IS seem to have the "set and forget" approach. The market for people who just want to install and ignore is greater than people who want lots of technical access to every part of the software.
