Why Battlefield Hardline will launch in 2015

07.22.14

Today we are announcing that Battlefield Hardline will launch in early 2015. Obviously, this is big news, so I?d like to address why we?re making this change.

Back at E3, we launched a beta for Hardline ? we wanted to not only show you the game, but to let you play it for yourselves. Millions of you jumped in and had a great time.  As a result, the Visceral Games team learned a lot from players about what they wanted in the game. We?ve been pouring over the data and feedback, and have already been putting a lot of it right into the game and sharing it directly with you.

This feedback also spurred us to start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better. The more we thought about these ideas, the more we knew we had to get them into the game you will all be playing. However, there was only one problem. We would need more time. Time that we didn?t have if we decided to move forward with launching in just a couple of months.

We decided that the right thing to do was to take more time to ensure Hardline is the best, most innovative Battlefield experience we can give to you, our fans.

Here are a few of the things the new timing will allow us to accomplish:

1. Multiplayer Innovation: Coming out of our E3 beta, internal focus tests, and work with our community, we have received a lot of great Multiplayer thinking. We?re going to be adding some new feature ideas direct from the community that will evolve the cops and criminals fantasy into a truly unique Battlefield Multiplayer experience.

2. Single Player Story Depth: In order to ensure our Single Player experience delivers on player expectations, we?re spending more time polishing our core features, as well as adding a few new ones that will support a deeper ?crime revenge? story experience.

3. Stability: This has been a focus for our team since day one and we?re going to be using the extra time to continue to optimize the game for a stable launch. We have learned a lot from Battlefield 4, are continuing to learn from our Community Test Environment and will learn more from another Hardline beta. More time allows us to surface issues that the team can attempt to fix prior to launch.

We are doing all of this for one reason. Because we want Battlefield Hardline to be the best game it can be, and so that we can create the best environment for a smooth launch for our players. We will give you updates on our progress and we?ll regularly share updates along the way via Battlefield.com/Hardline as well as the Battlefield social channels.

In addition to the ongoing development of Hardline, it?s important to note that the DICE teams continue to drive Battlefield 4. We continue to explore new opportunities for improvements and we are still releasing new content, including ?Dragon?s Teeth,? the fourth expansion pack that launches worldwide on July 29, and ?Final Stand? coming later this year.  We remain committed to giving you the best BF4 experience possible.

DICE VP & Group GM

I'm just not that excited about this game.  Probably the first in the BF franchise for me.

I see they're polluting their efforts by doing all the consoles once again.

Won't be buying...it'll be typical ported trash.

When I heard of the game I thought it seemed like an awesome idea.

then I tried the beta and saw it was just BF4 with a different skin and I was dissapoint. It had so much potential to be a cops and robbers game, to be unique... but.. not Cops and robbers with attack helis and inane guns was what we got...

APB is a better cops and robbers game.

Although i'm not interested in this reskin of BF4 i'm glad they finally realised that delaying a game is better than shipping a completely broken one.

It was just a BF4 mod. Nothing more, nothing less.

Now they're excited to discuss delays in the hopes of building confidence and pushing out "we want to get it right for the fans" messages

Annnnd, you'll still have people bitching that it doesn't run well on their machine. "Stupid Game/DICE""Fix the netcode"!! they'll say. "I've got lag" you'll hear. Then you find out that their on Win 95 w/128 kb of memory,S3 non3D vid card from 1998, running ###### in the background, burning a cd, and multiple instances of spyware, plus 56K modem with AOL, while trying to run BF5.   :| Yes, I know what the minimum requirements are.  :)

Pretty much.

Feels like they got called out on it, and are going back to ensure that it doesn't just look/feel like a modification. Otherwise, they're not going to get people to part with $60...

I'm more interested in playing it than I was BF4.  Never even bought Premium cause despite the added destruction I kept feeling like I'd already played the game with more variety in BF3 heh.

I read their reason it's not a mod, and I just don't know. They said the Vehicle physics in BF4 weren't precise enough for the police chases etc.

BF4 is better.

Better than a game that isn't out?  Shocking.  Next you'll tell me Privateer is better than Battlefield 5!

So this isn't really a battlefield war type game?

The beta is out and i play it, the game would need to be redone from scratch to be better than BF4. right now its BF4 with a different skin, meaningless game modes and stupid vehicles.

If they want to do cops and robbers they need to look at the robbery game modes from APB and make something like that, only better.

So this isn't really a battlefield war type game?

Unftunately that's just what it is, only with smaller maps, which makes no sense. It needs bigger maps so you can have car chases, and special different gametypes that's more than just the BF4 objective gametypes with different skins.

In the vast majority of games I prefer single player (much as I love Titanfall) so I can't say I really have an opinion otherwise.

Modern war games are just so damn boring.  I like them better than WW2 games mind you, but that isn't saying much.

Oh wow - can you imagine it being linked to a map like Watch_Dogs?

Massive multiplayer game... police can respond to bank robberies occuring anywhere in the city... multiple ones at once... chases... call in for backup from another precinct as it is about to cross jurisdiction... ok - I just made this game 50x better :P

these games have no single player, if it will have a single player it's not really anything else than an excuse to practice for the MP. But since the game was supposed to be released for $30, I doubt they're putting much work into a single player campaign.   ad even then, a cops and robbers game where the cops show up in helicopters armed with heavy machine gun and the robbers can steal and fly the chopper ... eh .. no.  do it over, do it right.

Download and play APB :p

these games have no single player

Strange how I've finished the SP campaign in every one of them then.

I haven't even played MP in the few Call of Duty games I own, and probably won't with future Battlefield games.
