SlayerS_BoxeR
at home, if you are using the same wifi connection, I am sure that you can track/see the history log of the URL visited not only from you but with the wifi that you are sharing with. How do you do this either in CL or through GUI?
Roger H. Veteran Posted July 25, 2014 Veteran Share Posted July 25, 2014 You'd already had to have the security log turned on in your router to see past stuff but that's where you'd see current stuff. It may not be a URL however (in some routers) just an IP address.
+John Teacake MVC Posted July 25, 2014 MVC Share Posted July 25, 2014 You could do this with something like IP cop and the transparent proxy looking at the logs. You mention UI or CLI, Of what OS/Software etc. Give us more information please.
+BudMan MVC Posted July 25, 2014 MVC Share Posted July 25, 2014 " log of the URL visited not only from you but with the wifi that you are sharing with." You think you can view the browsing history of other devices on the same wifi network? Example if I go to starbucks jump on their wifi hotspot and just start viewing where the guy next to me is browsing? Is this what your after - if so has no place on this board. Or are you looking to track what devices under your control go at your home or office?

+BudMan MVC Posted August 8, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 8, 2014 There is a difference between the owner of the network and someone on the same wifi connection. Unless you are running a proxy, or just sniffing traffic in general there is no way to know where a user went in a normal setup. If you want a running log of where users go you need to run a proxy. There is NO way for you to just open a gui on your machine or client and see where billy using the same wifi as you is going. Unless your sniffing the traffic and see it live. There would be no log of where he went before you started sniffing. "see the history log of the URL" If you want to sniff wireless traffic, yes it can be done - its a bit more complicated than you might think. And can have issues with if such a thing is even supported with your wireless card or OS. And again maybe someone else willing to help you with sniffing wifi at starbucks, but to me that not something of favored topics here on neowin. Now if you want to know how to run a proxy in your network to have your users use it so can monitor/control web access - happy to help.

SlayerS_BoxeR
Use a VPN. i know they usually slow down your speed, but what do you recommend? (the free ones)

+BudMan MVC Posted August 9, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 9, 2014 Depends on the VPN if they slow you down or not, And its much easier to just get a #15 a year vps and run your own vpn then pay what $10 a month. As to using a free one - they would all suck balls. Wand what no you just trust all your traffic to some free site? As to running a proxy on your network - do you have a machine to use, what router do you run. How many machines are in your network - if you provide some details of your network we could get started on how to run a proxy in it. Simple way to would be to run a router distro that supports it out of the box, but you can run one on a different box and limit internet access to only the proxy, etc.
