The popular game you never got into?

Recommended Posts

Minecraft (I really don't get what people like in this game),

I think because it is basically it's virtual Lego, without the risk of standing on a Lego block with a bare foot  :pinch:

Resident Evil 6. I tried to play many times and just couldn't continue. Don't know why lol

That series started to go down the road of a Western style shooter. The Japanese devs probably thought it would be more profitable that way. I think that series needs a hard reboot.

Elder Scrolls series

How do you feel about Fallout?

Halo

I have 4 different Halos on 360 and have never completed one. I got up to the swarm part on PC years ago but for some reason stopped there.

Tomb Raider (Original 1996 onwards)

Whole concept didn't appeal to me. That and a friend's parent thought we were watching porn from the audio during

Call Of Duty

With the exception of Black Ops, I just can't get into this game series. Originally it seemed to be a bad take on Return To Castle Wolfenstein then turned into "new quake".

Quake

Coming from Doom and Unreal, I found this game to be a bit over the top and quite easy to annoy the heck out of people who take things too seriously.

Counter Strike et al

Did not enjoy the series as it was too much stop, go, stop go, I remember when you would spend 3-4 minutes regularly connecting to a game over 56k, wait for the round to start and then everyone leaves! - very frustrating.

Mine was Bioshock 1, looked dark and unappealing. :(

I got the 3 games from Humble recently and I love it, goes to show that sometimes first impressions can get in the way of something good. :)

Halo. Played the first three. The story is bland and full of common places. Never got the rave reviews about the single player campaign.

Ah! there are so many of them... Halo series, minecraft, any MMORPG, any FF, CS, TF. all the CoD series...

i'm kind of picky with the games i play since my time to play is quite limited.

Most JRPGs. Most Western RPGs titles are a struggle too.

I love the idea of them more than the execution.

Yeah I know what you mean. I keep trying RPGs as I love the idea of levelling up, etc. but I just can't get into it when actually playing. Oh well :(

I like action RPGs/Action adventure such as Mass Effect and Zelda though.

How do you feel about Fallout?

I liked 3 and new vegas. My main issue is i'm not into the medieval or fantasy genres, so it never caught my interest despite the series being so popular.

There are quite a few popular games that I really could not care less for and it's really been frustrating since I can't seem to find any good games anymore. I like games with a story that's believable and with choices that affect the outcomes of the game. It would seem to me that should be the basis for any good game but I can't get it anymore.

Anyway, I picked up Far Cry 3 recently because I remembered the trailer looked phenomenal. It seemed to be an "Open-World FPS with a fantastic story" which is exactly what some of my favorite games are - S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Skyrim, etc. I found it to be completely unplayable. I said out loud numerous times "is this a joke" "are you kidding me". For a game that is supposed to be dynamic and the story meaningful, it sure as hell is very linear. To the point where you are told exactly how to dispatch your enemies in each mission. That is absurdly boring. What about people who don't want to bother sneaking around knifing people? What about I want to free this god damned island with explosions and gunfire all the way? How is it acceptable that this island has these little vending machines for ammo in everyone's houses and yet they have these problems with pirates? The whole game is just very gimmicky and I don't like the console feel.

Anyway, /rant. It's been a long time coming.

Tried Dark Souls II also but I could not get past the feeling that I was playing a game from a decade ago. Didn't some of the older Skyrim games look about the same? And again, the console port controls are garbage. These games are hardly playable out of the box.

I thought I was going to be the only one to say Halo... :)

I've played it a few times multiplayer and it decently fun, but not enough to make me want to buy an xbox.

My list should probably be an inverse of the question... not having a lot of funds I typically shy away from most of the popular high-priced games. So right now I'm more interested in picking up older games for cheap that were good but I missed.

Haven't played any MMOG (ain't nobody got time for dat), any xbox or playstation exclusives. No sports games either. Minecraft is the one popular game that I am somewhat interested in... demo was pretty fun, and it'll run on Linux.

I sold my PS3 and didnt pick up a PS4 yet...  hopefully DL still has it for me to borrow..

Yep just let me know when you get the PS4, you can borrow the remastered version, which obviously is the better version to play.

I will say this replaying the remastered version, it does take a little while to really get going. But it is very much worth it, so I agree with Audioboxer here. It is blasphemy LOL

Soooo many, I can't possibly list them all.

Never played:

RE6, any final fantasy, pretty much any MMO game, most tomb raiders (none of the last 4-5), any call of duty after MW3, battlefield 3 and 4, dragon age 2, left 4 dead 1 and 2, dead space 2 and 3, mass effect 2 and 3, bioshock 2, titanfall, dark souls 2, etc.

Never owned a PS3 or X360, so no console exclusives at all.

Played a bit but abandoned:

Dragon age: origins (too damn boring and a pause-fest), witcher and witcher 2, most RPGs in a nutshell; yet I played hundreds of hours of fallout 3 and even more in skyrim; finished new vegas but didn't like it as much as 3. Their huge worlds and atmosphere did the trick I guess and perhaps the reason other RPGs are not very interesting to me.

Mass effect; after playing fallout and skyrim, it seemed too closed to me, and I didn't like the characters or the dialogs that much either.

Dead space; too scary to play. (yeah, guess I'm a chicken :D)

Dark souls; terrible PC port, uninteresting story, didn't like the world either.

Many others, but can't remember right now.

Minecraft, The Sims, and GTA. Just couldn't get into them. The first I find too tedious (maybe I didn't give it enough time, to get good with controls...) and I dunno, I guess it sounds silly but I always get overwhelmed with totally open-world games. Paralysed by choices
