XP Randomly Rebooting sometimes (Annoying)

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what could be causing this? Sometimes XP just reboots (i know instead of a blue screen you get an auto reboot by default). It reboots then afterwards windows starts and i get "windows has recovered from a serious error" with the error msg: F:WINDOWSMinidumpMini012702-01.dmp

F:DOCUME~1***~1LOCALS~1TempWER3A.tmp.dir00sysdata.xml

Not sure what sofware is running when you get your random reboot but for me the culprit was Roxio Goback running in the background while running Morpheus. Had random reboots on a regular basis till I uninstalled Goback.

Hello there, this is very simple, perhaps you are not well acqainted with working in XP. Get to right clicking on my computer and go to the advanced tab and go to 'startup and recovery' tab and uncheck 'automatic restart' and also this is very important disable your 'Power Management' to never and never and never. If need be get into BIOS and disable this damn feature, it is a pain in the rearend.

If you have a VIA chipset and/or a nvidia graphic card you should consider changing the graphic driver. The standard one of XP works good but very slow. I just upgraded to beta 27.10, they work very stable on my machine. no crashes so far :rambo:

It might be a device driver error, as that is what caused most random reboots i have experienced.

I would check what it says on the blue screen, and check out the error or whatever on Microsoft's Knowledge base.
