mstefanik
For those of you who use VMware Workstation or Player on Windows 8.1, it looks like installing the October 2014 rollup update (KB2995388) can prevent you from starting any virtual machine. You'll get an error that you don't have enough physical memory, regardless of how much memory your system has, and how much memory you've actually configured the VM to use. VMware has acknowledged this is a known problem and they recommend uninstalling the update. An alternative that worked for me was to edit the %ProgramData%\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini file to add this line: vmmon.disableHostParameters = "TRUE" After I rebooted, I was able to start all of my VMs normally. I figured that posting this might save some folks time searching around trying to figure out what's going on. In my case, this issue only manifested itself after I did a system reboot (and I don't tend to reboot my WIndows 8.1 desktop very often).
