#Michael
As I continue to read more and more into the 'hack' of Sony Pictures and the more I think about this...could this be nothing more than one huge publicity stunt on the part of Sony. Here is my reasoning on this: 1. This all centers around 1 movie 1a. Sony then pulls the movie from theatrical release only to backtrack less than a week later and will do a much more limited premier 2. Movies, scripts, and emails have leaked before...this is nothing new 2a. Case in point: "The Expendables 3" leaked in DVD/BR quality even before it was in theaters 2b. Script for "Interstellar" leaked 3. The online hacker group "#GOP" is using terrible language skills to communicate their actions 3a. Law Enforcement links hacker group to NK but won't publically provide any evidence as to why All of these documents, spreadsheets, etc... that were leaked could have been easily produced. Hell...a spreadsheet called 'passwords' could have been easily put together. Using a great PR firm, this would/could be something of a great stunt. remixedcat and Draconian Guppy 2 Share

blank
No because Sony can barely produce anything of quality anymore. This is too good for them. TAKEITBILL and FunkyMike 2 Share
remixedcat
Sony as well as hollywood in general is out of ideas for movies so they could create something like this to make a crappy movie sell better and do better due to the controversy around it. Just like how pop stars are these days...
#Michael
no Why not? This is too good not to be a stunt. Like I said...no actual evidence has truly be presented to show this is real. All of this just smells like it was put on for a show. Sony as well as hollywood in general is out of ideas for movies so they could create something like this to make a crappy movie sell better and do better due to the controversy around it. Just like how pop stars are these days... Exactly. This almost reminds me of the movie "wag the dog" from the late '90's. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120885/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Max Norris
A PR stunt to make them look absolutely clueless and inept at basic network security, the terrorism threats (go to the movie at your own risk), the lawsuits, leaked employee data, the very negative light thrown on Sony in general, loss of revenue to the theaters, etc etc, all to promote a mediocre at best movie? That makes no sense at all, never mind parts of that would be illegal as all hell. IceBreakerG, blank, FunkyMike and 2 others 5 Share

You have law enforcement saying did. But no one has actually provided evidence that it did other than some screenshots. 2. Terrorism threats: From who???? The #GOP? Who in hell are they? It's been determined that they aren't linked to any known terrorist group and have no ability to do any damage. 3. Lawsuits: Who is suing who? Former Sony employees. Very easy for a PR firm to do this. 4. Leaked company data: In the form of word docs and spreadsheets. Wow...because that isn't easy to fake. Never mind it's happened multiple times already in the past.. there is a trend here.2. Terrorism threats: From who???? The #GOP? Who in hell are they? It's been determined that they aren't linked to any known terrorist group and have no ability to do any damage.Well if it's your PR firm making bogus terrorist threats then that puts the blame squarely on Sony's lap... IE, somebody's going to jail for a long long time. Terrorist threats are illegal, you not only got the FBI but also Homeland Security involved, never mind the President, and I'm sure they're not going to just chuckle over a fun practical joke. If it's a stunt, Sony and that PR firm are done.3. Lawsuits: Who is suing who? Former Sony employees. Very easy for a PR firm to do this. And again bringing the legal system into a prank. Yea, I'm sure the judges are just going to looove that. Also illegal as all hell.4. Leaked company data: In the form of word docs and spreadsheets. Wow...because that isn't easy to fake. And I'm sure it's also stupidly easy to tell if it's real or fake data. Since they've already got law enforcement in on it, I'm be willing to bet they're doing more than eating donuts and are actually checking the validity of the leaked data, you know, doing their job. So end of the day, you have an implausible "PR stunt" scenario that does nothing but screw Sony, its employees, theaters and customers every which way you can possibly think of. So yea.. no. Draconian Guppy
I kinda agree this being a major PR stunt... specially the "pulling the movies then "let the movie theater owners do what they want"... That or they really lack smart people @ sony HQ

Praetor
So by saying this is a stunt so well made that even the President of the US is talking about the movie, then this is the biggest trolling a company has ever done. And if it is a stunt, most likely the last. FunkyMike 1 Share

Who made the threats? Some ###### as group on the internet? Even DHS has said they know of no credible threats And I'm sure it's also stupidly easy to tell if it's real or fake data. Since they've already got law enforcement in on it, I'm be willing to bet they're doing more than eating donuts and are actually checking the validity of the leaked data, you know, doing their job. I suggest you should! So we take law enforcement at their word? Where is the actual evidence? This whole thing is comical and funny. It's on the internet...so it must be true. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 24, 2014 Subscriber² Share Posted December 24, 2014 Yeah, Obama is going to get behind a publicity stunt by having a go at Sony for initially pulling the movie. It's on the internet...so it must be true. Because you cannot post something on the internet if it is not true. A lie on the internet is just wrong. Is this some kind of ruse? How about obtaining the leaked information and going through it? There are a few facts: Data has been leaked and it is not the first or last time. Sony has more backdoors than "insert cheddar cheese or similar". Again not the first or last. The Interview is barely considered a movie. Not the first or last coming from these "actors". Yeah that was a stunt too.
