Sounds like real life. Wasn't Second Life like this, sort of? I never got into that.

I'm wondering how they're going to make the money to build something this massive, with no subscription fees.

It's still unknown how much the game going to cost (game isn't going to be free-to-play) and I'm sure they'll make some money from renting servers and the in-game cash shop (from kickstarter about the cash shop: "we hate "pay to win" games as much as anybody, and will always ensure that items and upgrades purchased with real money will not give a notable advantage in-game.")

Wow, such car, very reference.

Seriously though, it seems like a very intriguing game. And in regards to cost, backing the Kickstarter at just C$10 gets you the game; C$25 will also give you access to the closed beta, then there's a bunch of in-game rewards and extras for the higher tiers. I've just backed it, but I am a bit wary; it's an extremely ambitious project - even by AAA standards - being undertaken by "only a few people" using the name of another game developer (as well as a TV production company). It does seem a bit iffy. Still three weeks to go though (plenty of time to cancel my pledge if need be), so let's see what happens in that time...

  • 3 weeks later...

Doesn't looks like it's going to be funded. A week to go and barely hit half the goal.

If with kickstarter this would be released in end of 2016, guess now we will only see it at somewhere in 2017. A bit sad.
