mudslag
Out of the blue I got a BSOD, on restart I checked to see what the issue was, at one point I ended up at windows update. It said I couldn't update and got a error code 80070490. I restarted once again and this time it said I needed windows update but just 1, so I did it and after 30 mins my system now starts in Windows Technical Preview. I have no clue how this happened and no clue how to fix it. No restore points show up and I have to get back to my windows 7 for work. Some of my desktop items stayed while others are no longer there and active. I need to know what my options are.
Eric Veteran Posted January 9, 2015 Veteran Share Posted January 9, 2015 Did you run the tool they released to make PCs eligible for the consumer preview?
whs37
It looks like you upgraded your Windows 7 to Windows 10 TP. That means your Windows 7 is gone. It apparently kept some of your settings and hopefully all of your data. I suggest you save your data including your mail and your Favorites to a safe place on an external device. Then you can reinstall Windows 7 - unless you have images that you can use. Here is a good tutorial on how to do that if you have no installation disc. And in the future you may want to consider doing frequent images. Then you can fix a situation like this in 20 minutes. Here is what I recommend. It's one of my own tutorials. So if you have questions, post back.
macoman
If you upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, you made the biggest mistake ever. You should have created a separated partition for Windows 7 and for Windows 10. That way you will never lose your Windows 7 and is more safe to test Windows 10. LightEco
You can't just "accidently" upgrade from 7 to 10. You would have needed to run the tool from the Technical Preview site to allow the update to be shown. Even then it is not shown as a normal Windows Update, but as "Upgrade to Windows Technical Preview". Besides that, you really have no other option to get back to 7 than a complete reinstall.
