Hi,

actually I'm using as default email address an email that is linked to my DSL provider... but it is full of spam and several times I don't receive email from my contact.

Now I'm evaluating :

- Outlook.com

- Gmail.com

- Yahoo.com

- RunBox.com  (paid email service)

- Fastmail.com  (paid email service)

What do you suggest to use? In past I have used Gmail, but I think that this service is a little lesive of our privacy.

Write me your experience with the email services.. and what you have decided to use as your default email for friends, business and work :)

Thanks

Personally I like Gmail, but it really depends on your eco system I guess. If you are an Android user use Gmail, WP use Outlook, or you could use anyone of those anyway.

I just really like Gmail, i've been using it since I got an invite way back when!

The only one  would say not to use is Yahoo, it gets hacked like felm!

Agreed. Have been with Gmail since it launched pretty much. Outages are so infrequent I can barely remember them, and it's fast / light and works on virtually any mobile device. Thumbs up from me.

the usual suspects, gmail.com (using it for like forever, without any issues) and outlook.com (really a good one too and i think sooner or later microsoft is gonna dominate the cloud services attached to it, very strong eco-system already now)

if u want an alternative, try gmx.com

exists for like forever and is excellent

I don't like so much Gmail for the scanning of email for relevant ADS, but if you suggest me, i can try it. (i never use an account)

I have only a question:

- My name is Name SecondName Surname

Do you suggest:

name.s.surname@

or

name.surname@

I like more the first address...

you?

Used to use Gmail but switched to Hotmail/Outlook few years ago and only forward my mail from Gmail now. They both work well. I like Outlook is a little cleaner and I don't feel like they're trying as hard as Google to read my email to serve me more and "better" ads.

You realize that by asking people this, it will guarantee that you have a house warming gift of porn in your new email.

Funny, and also true. By posting a potential email address on the Internet, you are already opening yourself up for spam mail. This is why I have my Hotmail account to sign up for things, and my Gmail address that I only give out to friends, family, and people I know that won't abuse it.

Can't you opt out of this? Not sure. Using an ad blocker will take care of seeing those pesky Gmail ads.

Yes anyone can..  they have not looked deeply in the settings or research on how to do this.

I have done mine years ago. Same to Outlook.

But if i optout from gmail scan for ads... I don't stop profiling me or read my email, i only stop see relevant ads but Google continue to read email.

name.surname@

name_surname@

Name.s.surname@

Best bets are Outlook or GMAIL.  Free so try them out and see which ones you like the best.  And stay away from Yahoo.  Unless you like spam and malware.

Google doesnt read your email.  Dont believe the scare mongering.  Its a BOT scan for keywords and a lot of sites do it now a days.  And you can opt out and I never see an add/promotion ever in my Gmail.

And personally, I never use my full name in my email address cept for work.  Never have, never will.  Some things I like to keep private.

Why you don't like username with name and surname?

I use my email for private email with friend and for jobs curriculum and most people tell me that is better not using a fantasy username, but only name and surname that is more professional

Have you checked to make sure that all three are available for you to use?

Honestly it doesn't matter what we suggest. All would be valid email addresses that could be used for personal emails while at the same time used for contacting companies with a CV.

I use Outlook.com with 6 aliases: 1 for personal e-mails which is also my Skype account, 1 for "public" e-mails, 1 that I use to sign up on sites that I know won't spam me, like Facebook, PayPal, Ebay, Amazon and Twitter, this will also prevent people from looking me up using my mail, 2 for work since I work for 2 different organizations and 1 is my 15 years old Hotmail/MSN Messenger account. I love Outlook.com aliases.

I used to have a Yahoo account, then I started receiving a lot of spam, even though that address was strictly personal and professional, so I closed it and switched to Outlook.com also because Microsoft gave me, for free, 25GB on OneDrive, I'll admit that so much free cloud space played a huge part in my decision, and also because I prefer Office Web Apps over Google Docs, I prefer Microsoft privacy policy and the general "look and feel" of Outlook.com, especially the function that lets you trash an e-mail clicking the small trashcan icon near the sender, but basically, yeah I don't like Google and its policies in general, so I try to avoid using their services whenever I can.

I also have an account on Outlook with my ISP that I never use and a Gmail account that I use for spam and to login on websites which I do not particularly care about.

I like Gmail, have been using it ever since it went live. As I also have Android devices, it is simpler to set it up too. I like the integration of all services with the devices.

On the other hand, I also have a Hotmail account, it was my first ever, since I got access to internet, way back when...

Anyway, when Gmail came out I switched to it, but kept Hotmail.

One thing I still like about Hotmail is that I can create aliases within my account. I use them for newsletters, signing up to websites, etc... If one gets compromised and creates too much spam, just delete it and create another one.
