Does AMD Hydravision work on Windows 8.1?

Question

Hi!

I am having trouble installing the Hydravision basic or advanced package in Windows 8.1 x64. Earlier it was a part of the Catalyst suite, but now it seems to be gone. Does Hydravision work in Windows 8.1 or do you have to do without GPU enabled virtual desktops?

I get a error message: "No ATI driver is installed", but the CCC driver is installed from AMDs site.

Kind Regards

Hi!

Well, I actually cleaned with DDU beofre installing the actual gpu. But I hread on the AMD forums that it seems that the Hydravision package is not included anymore in CCC-install package. And I run 14.12 Omega since it was the latest drivers, yes.

Means the driver didn't install.

Check Device Manager to make sure that you are getting a Code 34.

What are you trying to install 14.12?

Did you clean with DDU?

Btw, where do I look for Code 34?

Well 2 ways to check if the driver is working.

device manager .. find your display device check the driver tab for info. It should tell you there if your device is installed or not.

In CCC you can check the software info tab to see if all the registry paths show up.

In your case they most likely don't. Sounds to me like only CCC installed but nothing else.

What kind of system are you running?

Hydravision is usually bound to the driver. The separate package is something very very old.

Why don't you use the built-in graphics drivers (14.12) Eyefinity system, it works with multi monitor desktops and should do what Hydravision did.   I am using Eyefinity on my R9280 windows 8.1 x64 and all is working beautifully. It works with multiple monitors of different sizes.

Well. Is looks the like registry paths show up there. So no problem there. On Hardware all info about the device seems to show up.

Hm.. so you mena that Eyefinity can be used to both combine multilpe monitors ( I have two 1920 x 1200) and have a extra virtual desktop to that?

My goal is to use one for local stuff and one virtual desktop for a VPN connection and other stuff.

Okay seems like I might have misunderstood you initially. You probably installed the standalone application on top of the 14.12 drivers. In which cause it wouldn't have worked since after 14.4 hydravision/eyefinity had a code rewrite.

In which case I do not know why Hydravision doesn't show up on your CCC. Maybe you are using a laptop.

Well,

I am using a fairly big PC.

Crosshair IV, AMD X6, HD 6970....

I t seems that the Hydravision has been left out from somewhere 13.xx releases perhaps?

Hmm doubtful that it has been left out. It is an incremental part of the software which also incorporates eyefinity.

Last time I personally saw it was before the kernel rewrite. Am also missing eyefinity and hydravision now but have last seen them on 14.4.

Try 14.4 since that version was pre kernel rewrite.

I solved it partially. I downloaded the Hydravision package from 13.4 and installed it. It worked, however it was kind of really slow.

I am comparing to a Quadro-gpu pc I have access to where switching between desktops is more instantaneous.

I'll try 14.4 then. Thanks!

Let me know if native functional came back, am curious!

In my opinion AMD has screwed up as usual and just broke it for some 6xxx cards after 14.4.
