hp tx 2000 - chrome os?

Recommended Posts

I know that this laptop has heating issues. A solution would be to add a copper shim on the gpu. I can't do that because I don't have the piece nor can do soldering. I've already clean it and replaced the thermal paste and it's running Vista. I was wondering could I install Chrome OS to make things better?

All I need it to do is run netflix and youtube.

Doubtfull, Chrome OS has quite limited hardware support.

Your better option could be to upgrade to windows 8.1/10 (when it's released), they have better power management and much better system/task management, so won't tax your laptop as much and so less heat.

Would win 7 do the job?

It would be better than Vista, but with Windows 8 they made a lot of changes under the covers of how it handles app switching, background tasks, memory load etc... so it would make a bigger difference I think.

But if you have easy access to 7 then deff upgrade to that.

If your going to have to pay for the OS then get 8.1 (you'll probably have to as MS don't sell 7 anymore really), but buying 8.1 you'll also get a free upgrade to 10 when its released.

So there are a lot more advantages to 8.

If its just the UI you don't like then there are plenty of apps to get rid of the start screen.

I have a spare win7 license.

It's the UI but more of system performance on that laptop. I only need it to stream media and that's it, really.

Don't bother with another OS. If your TX2000 has an AMD CPU, you can undervolt using an app called K10Stat.

You can also just limit your CPU to a lower frequency using the Catalyst Control Panel.

Both solutions will lower your temperature considerably. Using undervolting + limiting multiplier = cool laptop
