Berserk87
Microsoft has pulled all of the Windows images from digital river and are now redirecting users to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery The link will not provide me with links to the images as I am using an OEM key. I have the windows 7 disk and a valid key but my PC has not had a dvd drive in many years. I'm worried about downloading from another sorce to avoid virus/malware/keyloggers etcc.. Is there a legal mirror available?
Dot Matrix
Worse case scenario, you could always buy a portable USB DVD player. I have one, and I love it. goretsky 1 Share
episode
What about the USB drive option? How do you install Windows currently? You can still DL the iso with a valid key, so the rest of whatever you do would be the same.

Well, the digital river ISOs were not OEM either. You don't have a valid key for what MS is providing, thus you can't DL it. Ask your OEM. If not, you can always use a different source and check the MD5.

Thats what i'm probably going to have to do but I can't find a mirror for the ISO. Packed full of cracks or activation bypass.
+Eternal Tempest MVC Posted February 21, 2015 MVC Share Posted February 21, 2015 What you ultimatly want to do to have a good archive. Find a clean ISO of the Windows 7 Ultimate (I would grab both 32bit, and 64bit). Use a utility (such as ultra ISO) to edit the iso and remove the ei.cfg file from the disk. This turns the disc in to universal disc setup that Vista had. You can still get the ISO names and MD5 from Sums from here: https://technet.microsoft.com/subscriptions/downloads (download is for the dwindling remaining members) before the site goes down for good. Extra Credit - Make an Windows 7 disc using an mdisk dvd-r, and the disc should last your lifetime, plus a few generations after your Pair it up with a disc made by this utility, and you have an offline, standalone windows updater http://download.wsusoffline.net/ (Edit) for Reference X17-59463.iso (32bit) - 65FCE0F445D9BF7E78E43F17E441E08C63722657 X17-59465.iso (64bit) - 36AE90DEFBAD9D9539E649B193AE573B77A71C83 Berserk87 1 Share

xendrome
Yeah, those are more than likely against the rules. ISO's to my understanding are not a violation of the license agreement, posting the key/crack/hack to get around activation would be. bodmas, FunkyMike, sc302 and 2 others 5 Share

satysin
Why do Microsoft make it so hard for honest users? This does nothing but hurt people who are trying to get a copy of the product they are licensed for. Anyone wanting to pirate Windows won't bother with a legal download when they can get the same file plus whatever cracks/activators/etc they need from a torrent. So annoying. firey
Yeah, those are more than likely against the rules. Why would it be against the rules? Microsoft offered these iso's as direct downloads (for free) all that was done is a mirror made. If that's against the rules.. then that's just silliness. bodmas and +E.Worm Jimmy 2 Share

So I can start posting links to any ISO I want of any software I want here on neowin, as long as I don't post a link to the keygen or hack? Really? That is ok with the rules?? That is sure walking a fine line if you ask me.. So I can post a link to AIO ISO image that has like every windows OS possible on it, it doesn't have the keys or anything. But would that be ok with the rules too? So I can make copies of any software I have on cd,dvd, bluray and put this iso up on one of my servers or p2p and link to it? Won't include any keys or hacks, what about iso image of my new bluray movie I bought? I really don't think such links are in spirit of the rules. But if a mod is going to say its ok, I can feel a flood of links coming tsupersonic 1 Share

To be fair, Microsoft pulled those ISOs, otherwise a mirror wouldn't be needed. If Microsoft is no longer offering those as a download, I personally don't think a link to a mirror should be offered. +BudMan MVC Posted February 22, 2015 MVC Share Posted February 22, 2015 Where did MS ever have a link to isos that you could download if you were not a registered member of something? I don't recall ever seeing some url billy bob could hit and download a ISO.. You could either meet criteria to join something, pay a fee to join say msdn, or buy a copy, etc. Digital River never allowed you to hit a website and download a ISO without paying, not that I recall?? But hey if neowin according to mod stated that as long as there is no crack or hack, key given with it.. Who wants a copy of VL microsoft office install for 2007, has pretty much every office product MS makes before any of them phoned home and all you need to do is simple google for a key I have a server with unlimited bandwidth, where I store the iperf3 windows version I have been creating.. Maybe I should just put this iso up here as a community service to neowin? What the hell it doesn't have any keys with it, etc. What is the problem if we hand out the iso - who would ever be able to exchange a couple numbers/letters in a specific order via some other channel, etc.

firey
So I can't post an iso for a Linux Distribution then? And Microsoft did have those as open downloads. bodmas
Microsoft didn't actually pull anything. They just make you verify a key before downloading now. Before you could download without one. Well said. there is every posibility that if you have OS iso and you do not have valid cd key then in 90+% cases person tries to find crack/alternate activation method. thats why MS has made those iso available to only authenticated users who have valid cd key. we all know that this would not help MS but certainly help MS for other cause and that is luring users to easy available OS which is certainly windows 8.1 at present and windows 10 in future. I helped that users by providing links because he said he hade valid cd key. Edit: DigitalRiver is Micrsoft's sponsored server or you can say its official mirror server of MS.
