All audio playing out to a bluetooth device except alarms

Recommended Posts

I am hoping someone might be able to help.

I have used my iphone as my alarm clock (using the built in alarm app) for years but I have developed this stupid habit of just turning it off and going back to bed when it goes off. So I thought, why not connect it to my small bluetooth speaker and put the phone in another room downstairs. That way the alarm goes off and the only way I can turn it off is I have to actually get up and go to it.

But, I have found an issue. When it is connected, iOS sends all sounds out to the bluetooth device except for alarms. I have no idea why. I have tried this on the bluetooth speaker, connecting it via bluetooth to my home theater system, airplay, and a bluetooth headset. All of them play any type of audio except for an alarm. When an alarm goes off the phone plays it.

Any idea why? Can anyone else duplicate this? It is an iPhone 6+ on 8.2. I also have tried this on my iPad Air that is on 8.1.3 and it also does it.

After doing some digging on this, this appears to be by design.  If you attach it to a speaker with a cable then it will work.  But, Apple wants the alarm app to use the internal speaker for all alarms.
