Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 8, 2015 Moderator Share Posted April 8, 2015 I have tried this several ways, and nothing is working. I tried using Brasero, and a bunch of other burners. But all of them have ISO > DVD, not other way around. Unless I'm doing this wrong? I also tried dd, but when it created the ISO, it didn't seem to work. Can anyone point me to the correct approach? Nick H. Supervisor Posted April 8, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted April 8, 2015 According to this article Brasero does allow the creation of ISO files. Also, be sure to read the warnings at the bottom of the article.
Brandon H Supervisor Posted April 8, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted April 8, 2015 Ripping is the term you actually want. not Burn using the proper term pulls up many results from google here's a couple of the main ones I came accross http://pcsupport.about.com/od/software-tools/a/create-iso-image-file.htm http://freebies.about.com/od/computerfreebies/tp/free-dvd-rippers.htm if these don't work then your DVD is probably encrypted (very common with movies) to disallow this & you'll need extra software that I can't go into on this forum to decrypt the disk first

Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 8, 2015 Author Moderator Share Posted April 8, 2015 Yeah, rip, couldn't think of the word. I'll try what's suggested. Thanks all.
+BudMan MVC Posted April 8, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 8, 2015 pretty sure something like this is all that is needed dd if=/dev/cdrom of=image_name.iso now if your talking protected dvds, etc. you might have issues.
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 8, 2015 Author Moderator Share Posted April 8, 2015 K3B says: K3b uses transcode to rip Video DVDs. Please make sure it is installed. I tried doing that in Brasero, too, but it wouldn't take my DVD as source, just a blank window.
simplezz
dd works for extracting images, and growisofs for writing them. $ dd if=/dev/sr0 of=image.iso bs=1M
