Windows Activation via Phone

Recommended Posts

Windows activation over the phone has finally gotten better! This morning I was greeted by a new voice and I was asked if I was calling from my smartphone. If I was, then press 1, if not then continue to stay on the line. I pressed 1 and was told I would receive a text message with a link and further instructions. I click on the link and BOOM, a webpage where I could input my installation Id. After I put my ID in and hit submit, in a few seconds I got back my verification id. Put the ID into the windows 7 machine I was activiating and BOOM activated!

This came as a surprise to me so I want to share it with those who don't know yet. Ive been waiting for a better activation system over the phone and finally Microsoft has done it. I like this approach a LOT more. I just activated another computer 2 weeks ago and it was the old prompt and I had to type all the numbers, hit 2 for next, etc. So you can imagine the smile on my face when I didn't have to do the tedious 5-10 minutes process today. I was done within a minute of calling the number.

Good job Microsoft, your finally improving your systems.

Wow, that's pretty cool.  Having had to go through the old method, this is a welcome change.

If you use Skype you can call the Windows Activation number for free in the UK, not sure if that's a world wide thing or not.
