john_alex
Hello, I've been trying to restore my Windows 8.1 device using a recovery drive I built previously. The problem is that when I boot from the usb drive the reset/recovery/etc. options are not available. After selecting the language and keyboard layout i get 3 big icons: first one allows me to exit recovery and boot to Windows, the second one allows me to select a drive and the third one is shut down. When I select the second option I get a list of storage devices: uefi usb drive, uefi:cd/dvd drive, uefi:removable drive and uefi:network drive. When I select the usb drive or the removable drive, the screen dims a little then the device reboots and that's it. The device uses WIM Boot. Here is what I get:
James035
I don't have advice to offer, Since you mention the partitions are gone, that hints at a issue, such as drive failure. If you haven't done another form of backup your data files and applications may unfortunately be long gone.
Liana
I'm not sure what brand/model tablet you have, but I have a Surface Pro and I know that it's picky about what it will boot from -- it will only seem to boot from a usb drive that's formatted FAT32 with one single partition spanning the entire drive. I personally use Rufus to make bootable USB drives and I make sure the partition scheme is set at "MBR or GPT", or else my tablet won't boot from it. Hope this helps.
