The PlayStation 4 was back on top last month.

After the Xbox One surprised everyone by outselling thePS4 in April, Sony has come charging back to own hardware sales in May, according to data from research firm The NPD Group. With the $55 billion worldwide console-gaming market up for grabs, it

XB1 was 139k. Don't know Sony yet.

Last May was when the Kinect-less model was leaked so sales were incredibly low.

Reminders

NPD is U.S. retail sales only.  It does not count digital distribution and is not global.  Bundles count only toward the hardware.  The platforms in parenthesis after the software titles are in order of decreasing sales.  So for "The Witcher III" PS4 sold the most, followed by Xbox One, with PC coming in 3rd.

Software

1. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
2. Mortal Kombat X (PS4, Xbox One)
3. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
4. Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)
5. Splatoon (Wii U)
6. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (PS4, 360, Xbox One, PS3, PC)
7. NBA 2K15 (360, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, PC)
8. FIFA 15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, Wii , 3DS, Vita)
9. MLB 15: The Show (PS4, PS3)
10. Super Smash Bros. (3DS, Wii U)

Hardware

Sony:

As we head into E3, we would like to thank gamers for making PS4 the top-selling console and the leader in software sales in the U.S. in May

The month to month number is what matters. MS peddling up 81% over last year is PR at it's best. Why not say up 100% from 5 years ago as no One's were sold then? :p Last year in May everyone was waiting on the Kinectless model so sales were astronomically low. You don't blame them they have to try and say something positive in an NPD release as all companies do, but I'd like to think you're not a PR mouthpiece Kvally to think a post like that means much to monthly NPD results. Up 131% vs down 48% sounds great... but reality is simply 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each month. The NPDs and the charts are most relevant to the month they're posted in, and the months surrounding for trends, not so much 12 months ago.

Why does any of this matter? Unless one console bombs to the point that companies stop making games for it it makes no difference if one console sells more....except to share holders and die hard fanboys.

We are all just discussing it because we enjoy discussing it. If it doesn't matter to you, don't read or post in these threads.
