cork1958
Hello, Simple question for most of you people here, but I've never had or used one! Did a couple quick searches around for an ide/sata to usb 2.0 adapter and seen several makes/models and a very wide range in prices and user opinions. None of the local stores around here have any on shelves so was wondering what might be the best one at the cheapest price? Thank you
xendrome
You need one to work with 2.5 drives, 3.5 drives or both?
cork1958
I see most of the one's work with both sizes so kind of forgot to mention that, but both sizes preferrably.

episode
For SATA its easy - get a dock one. ThermalTake makes a good series. For IDE - all the ones I've had stop working eventually, and sometimes just won't work with certain drives. Luckily IDE is old enough now that this isn't a big issue. Everything stops working eventually! Have 30+ old IDE drives around that I've been thinking about tinkering with. Have 1 of my brothers from his computer that just died and one from a friend that I've been putting off doing anything with also. Would really like to get what's on those drives copied for them. xendrome
I see most of the one's work with both sizes so kind of forgot to mention that, but both sizes preferrably. Well 2.5 doesn't need external power, 3.5 does. This is what you want. http://amzn.com/B00N4JUOI2
Tha Bloo Monkee
If you're looking for something ultra cheap and works well, then this is what you want: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-to-2-5-3-5-inch-IDE-SATA-External-HDD-Drive-Adapter-Cable-Converter-/271576255967?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3f3b34cddf It's like $3 shipped. Gotta wait like 3-4 weeks though. You still need to connect it to your PC's power supply but it's ultra cheap and great for occasional external use. Good to keep in your tool bag. From most of any reviews I've read, the Sabernet seems to be of decent quality. Ordered this model, Sabrent USB 2.0 TO SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5/-INCH Hard Drive Converter With Power Supply & LED Activity Lights [4TB Support] (EC-AHDD) Thanks folks! (Account no longer active)
If you don't need portability, 'dock' versions are also available. Personally, I'd recommend the Newer Technology USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter: http://www.newertech.com/products/usb3_universaldriveadap.php
