How Embarrassing

Recommended Posts

Ok, I admit it. I joined the FireRonZook.com site after last year's debacle in the Outback Bowl against Michigan. Stupid play calling, lack of energy, horribly outcoached, etc. etc. etc. After the Gators ran off 3 straight wins against LSU, Arkansas, and Georgia this year, I figured "What the hay" and turned my position around. The Florida State game sucked, should have been won, blame refs, whatever. Bad loss.

But today was unacceptable.

Iowa absolutely made the Gators look like Vanderbilt. I give them all the credit in the world: they came out with a purpose, the coaches did outstanding pre-game planning, they outcoached Florida during the course of the game, and basically they wanted it more. 37-10? In Florida's back yard? Did the Gator coaches and players not learn ANYTHING from last year? Same bowl game, opponent from same conference (Big 10), same damn result.

I never expected the successor to Steve Spurrier to win a national title in 2 years, but I did expect the team to show some improvement over those 2 years. Last year was understandable: Rex Grossman was used to the Fun N Gun, players were used to the offense winning games; not the defense, and coaches were expected to make adjustments during the game (somtimes what you gameplan for doesn't work; that's where Spurrier became a genius). Now, 2 years in a row, an 8-5 record and 2 straight losses in the same bowl game, except this year the opponent was inferior to last year's opponent. The Gators should have dominated this game; instead this idiot of a coach plays the same exact gameplan as last year. No improvement, no imagination, and a severe lack of energy and desire from EVERYONE on that sideline. I am absolutely ashamed to be a Gator fan today. I can understand a loss in a bowl game by 3 or even 7 points. But you don't go to a bowl game, in your own STATE for God's sake, and get blown out by 27 points.

Not only were the coaches completely incapable of adjusting, but the two ROCKS of this team, both Seniors (Ratliff and Scott) were suspended from starting today's game on defense. The two guys who have led this team all year, who have played more snaps than anyone on the team, the two guys depended on to help solidify the unity of this team, and they do stupid crap before the game. So, that also tells me there's no discipline. Ron Zook...I am now a member of the FireYourA$$.com website again, only this time, I won't cancel my membership.

I hate UF during the year, but always root for the SEC in the bowls. Quick give Spurrier a call, he's not doing anything right now!

Same with me. I hope Georgia holds on against Purdue (very good game right now), because I think the SEC is far more superior than the Big 10; however, the Gators have proved me wrong three times in the past 4 years (Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa).

Spurrier won't be back. I'm not one of those who thinks for a second about him wearing the blue and orange visor again. But, there are other coaches out there I would like to see, mainly Jimmy Johnson (the man loves the state of Florida), Dennis Green, or Norm Chow (USC offensive coordinator). Only good thing Zook has done in 2 years is beat Georgia, but, no offense, that isn't really saying much these days ;)

Actaully, when King Spurrier beat us, that was less of a feat. We have been much better during these last few years and still lost! Damn Florida Curse!

i hope he stays in the Big X.

speaking of embarrassments, how about KSU. they are having a whoopin put on them by tOSU.

if this is the best the big 12 has, i think oklahoma is in for some trouble.

Zook is a good coach but he is just that.....a good coach. He has trouble getting consistency out of his players. Always has....while at UF before hand, then New Orleans, now UF again...it's a common theme with him.

And UF young? They lose 14 starters I believe...quite a lot

I never really understood the label Zook put on this team in August: "young". If he thinks they were young this year, wait until next year, when there will be 4 new starters in the secondary, freshman tight ends, sophomore QB, sophomore RBs, and it's looking like 2 sophomore starting WRs.

And the reason you don't hear about Kansas State? Scheduling. Bill Snyder ever year schedules cupcake teams prior to the Big 12 schedule. So, they don't get the national recognition. They have had good teams and great players (Kevin Lockett, Martin Gramatica, Michael Bishop) and their defenses are always strong, but they just don't play anybody (although, they did play USC this year).

After watching the U.S. Army High School game today, it looks like Oklahoma is going to have yet another stellar incoming class. Plus, Jason White will be returning, and they only lose one starter off the offense. Damn, I wish Bob Stoops would have stayed at Florida.

Zook is going to have to win very soon because the UF fan base is getting tired quickly. I think Zook bought himself a 1-2 year extension because everyone at UF still feels bad about being so mean on him in the beginning of the year.

But UT is struggling and UGA, imo, has the brightest future as I see Saban leaving within 1-2 years and giving it to Jimbo who is over-rated

yeah kstate plays a pretty weak OOC schedule. they didn't play usc though, just cal.

i thought it was funny the first year of the bcs when a highly ranked kstate team got overlooked for a bcs bowl cuz of their weak schedule, and then got spanked by purdue :)

Spurrier left when he did because he knew UF didn't have the same talent coming in as they usually do. Spurrier told Stoops he shouldn't be the next coach. I can see Stoops moving back to Florida if his Sooners start to weaken.

That Purdue game was one of the best games I've ever watched. They re-played it on ESPN Classic last week and I finally recorded it. The drive at the end by Drew Brees (only a sophomore then) was unbelievable. And I guess I got Cal and USC confused, although I could have sworn they played USC in Kansas City (maybe that was last year??).

Yeah, Bob Stoops will never go back to Florida. It's either NFL or a career coach at OU. And after seeing Steve Spurrier falter, maybe he will lean toward staying at OU for good.

And I don't think Spurrier left because he saw the talent starting to fade. They manhandled a very good Maryland team that year and he still had Rex Grossman coming back for a Senior year. Basically, he stated that it was getting very monotnous to him. Every year the Gators dominate going into the Florida State game. And every year, based on the outcome of the FSU game, it would decide whether the Gators were in the National Championship or not. Plus, he got screwed by AD Jeremy Foley after the FSU game in 2001 when he complained that the Criminoles played extremely dirty and got away cheap shots, even injuring a player. Foley never filed a complaint, never took public action, he did nothing. He also was being courted by many NFL teams for year, eventually a coach like him (with the ego and everything) would give in. It would be against Steve Spurrier's nature and his competitiveness to just quit because he felt like he couldn't field a quality team; everyone knows it was Dan Snyder who ran him out of Washington.
