xplatinum Posted January 31, 2016 Share Posted January 31, 2016 Can someone confirm that it is possible to migrate the licenses from a 2008 R2 server to 2012 R2? I just want to migrate the CALs. I know it's not possible to convert 2008 CALs to 2012 CALs. I just want to port everything over to the new server. I need to do this later today as we are moving everything to Amazon EC2. Thanks! Irrelevant. 2008 to 2008r2 no problem. 2008 to 2003 no problem, 2008 to 2012 or 2012r2 problem. Call Microsoft for confirmation, but they will tell you same thing. If you deployed a new 2012 R2 licensing server, you can load it up with 2008 RDS CALS for connection to a 2008 RDS server, but not for connections to a 2012 R2 RDS server. (See above link) I'm under the assumption that is what he wants to do. However, I don't know if he can easily move the license server itself. Which is why he needs to call Microsoft.
