Multifunction printer for small business

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I would like some suggestions about a multifunction printer for a small office, taking in consideration the cost of consumables (toners and drums)

Requirements:

A4 mono

7000 pages/month

scanner

(provide me also a suggestion of a colour one in the same conditions)

And just for curiosity:

A3 mono

A4 7000 pages/month

A3 500 pages/month

scanner

Thank you for your time

The cost per print is 0,035, still expensive per page, i would have to buy 3 toners per month since it's only up to deliver 2400 prints per toner.

what is the budget here for purchase of the device?  And out of curiosity what do you feel is a reasonable cost per page for printing black, and then color?

Are we talking $200 or $2K

Black i'm expecting less than 1cent per page with a toner that can print at least 8000 pages.

LOL...good luck with that one.  You're going to find most printers (with your requirements) will be running 2 cents or higher per page.

So, something like what Mindovermaster suggested ... or something like this....

so here is one that shows less 1cent black, less 5cents color.  But its inkjet but new system that is suppose to be very cheap.

http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/ModelDetail/4/MFCJ6925DW/spec

It has a max duty cycle of 26k pages per month, but recommend of 1500.. Here is a higher end model designed for higher print volumes with recommend 5k a month, it is laser with color cost listed at less than 7.5 cents and black less than 2 cents.

That would be the closest I know that comes to your requirements.  But your talking like 800$ retail - what is your budget for purchase?

Where did you come up with the 7k a month duty cycle? And toner that can do 8k some pages? What are you using to print now?  I know the brother lines have some black toner cart that do high yield of like 8k pages but not sure there are any color that do that?

Then purchase remanufactured print cartridges.  A toner that can print 8000 pages that is a large toner drum.  Bigger than you will find in most small home/office printers.  You are looking at enterprise or enterprise work group.

M630 cost per page is $0.016 on hp toner, reman is around $0.010...if you get the high yield ink from inktechnologies.com, cost per page per toner cartridge is $0.00264.  Sometimes the toner cartridges are junk and have ghosting on the prints...maybe 1 out of 50 or so.

Smaller less work horse printers will cost less, but toner cost goes up.  Do you want to pay less up front and more in supplies, or more up front and less in supplies?  The cheaper the printer is the more expensive the supplies are (sometimes double the price of the printer or more), the more expensive the printer up front the less expensive the supplies.  At least, that is the way HP seems to work.

If what your looking to do is save money on cost of printer and consumables you might want to split your printing to multiple printers, I have to assume your b/w is more than your color.  So you split your duty cycle down get a less duty cycle color printer, etc.

How many people are spitting out 7k pages a month?  Even with a 6 day work week your talking like 300 pages a day.  That seems like a lot for a small business, I just looked at the printer here in the office.  We have say about 100 people in this office and have multiple printers.  The one near me just checked the black toner and says estimated 42 days left, and it got installed on jan 1 2016.  Its a Xerox 7535 toner yields are 26k and 15k pages for color.  It says it has 10k black pages left, as sc302 mentioned, toner gets cheaper when you get higher end devices.

I don't work for a small business, but the office here is small..  And we have 3 of those 7535 that I know about - they might have 2 back in the finance section that I do to very often.  But those are all 1000's $ each.  You might be able to pick up a refurb for like $4k..

Which is why I asked what your budget was for a printer.. Is this for a starting small business or looking to save money in your current printing costs - What are you using now, where did the 7k duty cycle come from?  To be honest depending what business your in printing isn't all that popular anymore ;)

I think our lease on a C364E Konica Minolta Bizhub is like $160 a month - http://www.biz.konicaminolta.com/colour/c554e_c454e_c364e_c284e_c224e/index.html this includes service, all toner (b/w and color), waste toner cart, etc. Paper is the only thing not included.

Then we pay something like 0.0065 cents per page. This is government contract pricing, but still, but be worth looking at a lease?

I've had horrible experiences with Canon printers. I have low volume printing and both models that I had (Pixma) have cr@pped out in 6 months or less. I would stay away from them. My 2 cents......
