markm7
I have always used it it it worked fine until a couple of days ago. It opens fine, lets me click on analyze or Defrag, Then it just sits there claiming it is "anylizing..." and that's all. No "error messages" no "Not responding". I even let it sit for over an hour. Anyone see this before I have plenty of free room on the drive, 18 gigs free!
Big_Mark
1) Your HDD might have gotten bad sectores somehow 2) Try Diskepper
mtgriffith
Have you run chkdsk yet?
markm7
Diskeeper 7 does the same thing, It goes to 10% and no more. My disk is has 2 partitions, one partition defrags fine the primary one won't. Plenty of room on both. When I run checkdisk it says it can't complete the process, and asks if I would like to schedule it to check it after restart? ????????????????? mtgriffith
Chkdsk is different than scandisk. It does its business on boot.
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 5, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 5, 2002 Yeah, let chkdsk reboot the machine and do a low level scan. I'd recommend doing it overnight. It's pretty long and can get in the way of other useful activities (like Pr0n :D ) Also, DK7 is basically what's included with XP (check the About dialog on the disk defragmenter. it's copyrighted by Executive Software too). The purchased version just lets lose some addition features like page file and MFT defraging (good things). Hope this helps.. -timmah!
