Upgrading to XP

Recommended Posts

You shouldn't have any problems, XP will tell you prior to install if there will be any driver/software problems. Installing this way lets you restore 9x/me etc if you want but you'll find the whole XPerience ;) will be better if you do a clean install.

Well when I was using RC2 and upgraded my 98SE system (RC2 was the proffesional version) I couldn't run anything that was on before it. Games like tribes 2 and others wouldn't run anymore. After a clean wipe and a full install everything was perfect. After you get a new OS it's recommended to do a clean install anyway, but I tried. But I have the full oem version now wich is 160 US dollars, wich is cheaper than a home upgrade in my local best buy so maybe you should go that route. You won't get a fancy manuel but who cares?

Back your data up, do a clean install, update all drivers, and have a much better time!! That's what I did. Haven't seen a BSOD yet but have seen app crash. Never had to reboot though.

I was really impressed with Sony. I upgraded my wife's Viao from ME to XP without any problems. I got the upgrade from Sony. It came with a CD that made all of the updates I needed to make before I upgraded.

If you are upgrading a store bought computer then check the manufacturer's website for BIOS and driver upgrades. Also run the compatibility wizard that comes with the XP CDROM.
