:D I have a question about one of the tweak listed on neoseeker.

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware...nxptweak/2.html

Its about turning off indexing.

Indexing helps you search through files quicker but you pay the price of some slowdowns right, im right so far?

Well when they mean search are they talking about the search feature that comes with every computer, the one that reside in yuor start menu. Cuase i dont use that feature at all, i just go through each folder manually searching with my eyes.

So if i disable indexing by the method in the link above, Im gaining some slight speed? Its a win win situation right.

im just confuse becuase i disable indexing services through services.msc in regedit.

then i disable indexing in add/remove windows component, and now i come across this indexing tweak.

Just to be shure im asking what kind of searching are they talking about. Searching program where the comp automatclly search for what you want it to search, or the kind of searching where i browse around the c drive looking for crap.

Oh and since i turn off indexing will it effect spybot and ad-aware search speed

Ty in advance

This is really nice of the NeoWin staff to allow this kind of thread...and "pinned" to boot. Oh, and thanks to slimy for suggesting the pin.

So, here's a site I like to go to. Jan makes her site a playful adventure...and we learn stuff too.

And, being that she's such a sweet gal, I posted my complete Slimming Down XP Guide there for her...

A very nice gal in England created and is hosting a forum for Bold_Fortune. (That's me.) Why, I have know idea.

I wasn't that interested at first, and thanked her for the kind thought. But then I thought, what if I could create a place where people could go to learn and have fun?

The Bold_Fortune Forum isn't going to have a lot of rules. There aren't going to be armed guards with badges at the doors censoring your posts. I'm not there to supervise, nor to baby sit. I'm there to have fun, to learn, and maybe help a few people with their computer questions.

I'll be putting up my complete Slimming Down XP Guide, where you can reference it in it's entirety.

Anyway, take a look. Join in if you like. You have a question, don't be afraid to ask. It's just getting started, so don't expect a lot right now. But, just wait...it's going to be a fun place...without a lot of rules...but with some good information...and some good people.

"Ever pull up Task Manager (Alt-Cntl-del) and look under processes and wonder what the heck are all those processes that are running. Well I came across this great link. First open task manager and place off to a corner. Next pull up the System Configuration Utility (Start-Run-MSCONFIG), click on the Startup tab. Place this window in the lower corner.

Now run this internet link: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Task...es/tasklist.htm

You will see the page is laid out numericaly & by alphabeticaly. Look at the first item running in the Task Manager Processes. Click on the first letter of its name on the web page. Locate the actual name of the process. If its something not needed or wanted you can end the process. See if you can locate it on the Task Manager List and see if its on the startup list, services list, etc.. If it is un-check it to keep it from starting next time you boot.

Example: WBLoad.exe (Widow Blinds used to load AlienGUISE package). Don't delete."

ATT Parents - wanna block those pesky rugrats from staying on the pc all night?

So did I, and I found this today. Bwhahaha

This is a cool little function that I found could be useful for parents!!!

1. Open Help and Support and type "logon hours" (without the quotes) in the search box.

2. Go to Full text matches and click on "Net user". See the examples for setting a user's logon hours. Some examples would be:

or just type cmd in the run box:

3. Open a Command Prompt window and type similar to below.

net user billyjoe /time:M-F,08:00-17:00

net user joeybilly /time:Sa-Su,8am-5pm

net user mrmagoo /time:M,4am-5pm;T,1pm-3pm;W-F,8:00-17:00

net user bob /time:all (this one means this user can always log on)

4. Enter the appropriate "net user" command for the user(s) you wish to restrict access for.

Simple. Bwhahahahah, he won't know what's hit him ;)

The logon restriction is great for restricting logon privledges but it does not log them off, for that you need: WinOFF

    • I am not a fan of haptic feedback touchpads. I've owned a Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon) with one and a Lenovo Slim (Intel), and I hated both to the point where I purchased different laptops. It's not that they don't work most of the time; it's that they don't work 100% of the time, and there is no advantage from a user's perspective over a good mechanical trackpad like what's on a ThinkPad X1 or a Yoga 9i. I do not believe that I'll buy another haptic feedback touchpad laptop again in the near future.
    • Works fine here too. About this build, I don't like to download any kind of Windows, from any site except Microsoft. The mod might work, but I don't know what it's inside. Can contain malware, backdoors... Long time ago I've used something like this but reversed - it was 98se with the look and some functionality  of XP. Or, later XP with Vista look. But I made it myself. Not downloaded from obscure sites.
    • Rockstar gives last-gen GTA V players free upgrades tomorrow by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Rockstar is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, but ahead of that, the company has revealed a new offer for some Grand Theft Auto V owners. It today announced that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version owners of the 2013-released title will soon be receiving a free upgrade to the current generation version. The studio released the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2022, bringing significant upgrades to the original console editions. This included 60 FPS gameplay at up to 4K resolution, as well as major upgrades to textures, draw distance, and audio. Faster load times, ray tracing elements, and HDR support were also added with it. While this new and enhanced version needed a new purchase of the game to jump in, now Rockstar has decided to make it a free upgrade, dropping the $40 price tag entirely on consoles. "Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTA V and GTA Online," said the company in an official blog post. The free upgrade offer will be released tomorrow, June 18, for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Grand Theft Auto V. Players who will be jumping in on the offer will want to check how to migrate their GTA Online profile from last-generation to current-generation consoles by heading over here. The offer lands ahead of The Kortz Center Heist hitting Grand Theft Auto Online, where players and crews will be tasked with stealing priceless international art from a prestigious gallery in Pacific Bluffs. It doesn't look like Rockstar plans to stop updating its previous game even with Grand Theft Auto VI being on the horizon. The latest title is slated to launch on November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
