JoHideo
I have an Inspiron 8600 and I was wondering if there was any way in which I could somehow allow the touchpad to also let me scroll webpages. I know some laptops have this built in and my friend was telling me that the 8600 came with the ability to do that, but I reformatted with my own XP Home SP2, so it is not there. Is there some way to get that program to allow me to do this from Dell or are there any other programs that allow this?
Ritalin
Im not trying to hijack or anything but that's a great question, and if possible can it be done with an LG LM50?
SMeK Veteran Posted September 28, 2004 Veteran Share Posted September 28, 2004 either press both buttons down (like pressing the middle mouse button) or if you find the correct drivers the touchpad has the option to "use scroll function" under gestures
Corpse19
I also have an Inspiron 8600, and I also formatted mine. To get it back go to your mouse properties and change the way one of the buttons work.
JoHideo
I don't have that Mouse Properties dialog. I reformatted with my normal XP Home SP2 disc because I didn't want all that Dell junk on here.
Corpse19
You have to install the Alps GlidePoint/StickPointer driver. Get it here.
NetRyder
My Inspiron 5100 can do it (you just move your finger along the right edge of the touchpad), so I'd think the 8600 would be able to as well. You need to install the drivers for your touchpad from Dell's site: http://support.dell.com
JoHideo
Yes, I actually did do this after my previous post and it worked perfectly. Thanks to everyone who responded.
JoHideo
In the same vein, is there some sort of software that will allow me to gain use of my media buttons? I have a play/pause, stop, previous track, and next track button, but I have not been able to get them to work.
vincent
Hp models come with a side scroll pad... but for the most part that is so annoying when typing I suggest getting a mouse for your laptop. www.pcclub.com me personally laptops = :x
JoHideo
Well, I got the scrolling issue fixed. I was wondering about something different now.
Hawkeye
In the same vein, is there some sort of software that will allow me to gain use of my media buttons? I have a play/pause, stop, previous track, and next track button, but I have not been able to get them to work. I believe they should work by default with Windows Media Player and with Winamp, but just in case, try downloading QuickSet from Dell's support website. NetRyder
Yup, QuickSet should do it. :)
asdflkjsdrhthfhrhr
I've got the scroll area on my touchpad, it's great. It doesn't work unless you take your finger, place it on the scroll, and use it, so there's no chacne of you randomly scrolling.
