freeza
im pretty sure its resource hacker that creates the _original just incase of a mistake.
YahoKa
I think it has something to do with windows file protection. Since windows 2000 (maby earlier?) Windows stops programs/users from destroying nescessary Windows NT files. Dunno if there is anything you can do. I think the guy above ^ had a better theory though. PM5K
Give this a shot: http://www.littlewhitedog.com/reviews_other_00012.asp The way it worked best for me was to replace the explorer.exe either from the command prompt, or if you have another os like Windows 98 do it while in Windows 98... Hope that helps..
Gergith
im pretty sure that is just something that reshacker does, like what freexa said, see if you edit any other file with reshacker, find out if it has a file with the same naming system.. Steve
Sorry! i Dint make it Too Clear! U See... If I Log Out and in or Restart etc...The button Goes back 2 Start Again! So somewhere its protectin' it! BTW in that screenshot... the temp file of explorer.exe wen open in resource hack has the "aQuA" text in it rather than the "start" found in "explorer_original.exe" ! if That Helps! Rcp
if you would go through every single step then it should work. u need to find the file called "filelist.xml" right click on it and uncheck "Read Only". after that open it with notepad and add a exclude line in
slice
Neyo, Go to windows directory and look for dll something or other, but it is hidden I thinks its called dllcache in that folder their is a backup of exlporer.exe just delete it and it should be fine. the way I do it is start taskmanager kill explorer and save reshacker the on task manager on new task type explorer.exe Hope this helps sLicE
khaos34
Neyo, make sure you delete the explorere.exe in c:windowssystem32dllcache . That's where windows gets the backup copy of explorer to replace. The explorer_orginal.exe that yourefer to has nothing to do with anything. All it is is a backup copy of your original explorer.exe (hence then ame) generated by reshack in case soemthing went wrong. Windows does not access it in any way, and does not treat it as any file. Make like it doesn't exist (unless you want your old start menu text back or you did something wrong). Make sure you added the line in filelist.xml in c:windowssystem32restore... it should look liek this near the top: %systemroot%explorer.exe %windir%explorer.exe %windir%system.ini I put the second line in there just in case. And before editing this file, uncheck read only from its properties. The way i replace explorer is to quit explorer witht he task manager, start a command line (cmd.exe), and repalce it that way. After that, it should be good. Windows may ask you to insert your windows xp cd to put bck the explorer.exe file, just press cancel or no to all of that. You should be set.
