MS-DOS 6.22 is free to download (legally) but I cannot find it. I need it for specific programs to run.

Microsoft's website has links to a single setup file, but that's no good - I'm looking for the links to download:

- DISK 1

- DISK 2

- DISK 3

I already have the DOS 6.22 bootdisk, but I'm having no luck in finding the actual OS.

Thanks in advance.

Never used eMule.

95/98 - I don't have those operating system. I use XP-Pro, and all I need are these 3x MS-DOS 6.22 setup disks.

Run:

We have an old piece of legacy software that is dependanct on DOS as a client operating system. Upgrades are not an option due to finances etc. etc. and I'm looking for this OS as a backup disk because I realised we don't have a backup of it.

Better late than never but...

i was searching for dos 6.22 wen i found this tread and i think i got a Solusion for DjmUK's problem.. he probbly has a solution but... other can use this info

i made a lidel guide how to turn the setup form the folloing link into a 3 disk setup

http://download.microsoft.com/download/dos...N-US/stepup.exe

- Open up stepup.exe in winrar extract the files to a new map

- Open Setup.Bat in Notepad, Delete the following code, And save the file

REM This batch file expands the MS-DOS 6.22 Step-Up files and
REM then runs MS-DOS 6.22 Setup.

if %1'==RESTART' goto restart
if not exist 1MSDOS62.EXE goto missing

REM ----- Do expansion of a split archive -----
:multi
md C:\stepup
if not exist c:\stepup\nul goto dir_err

REM Copy this batch file to the hard disk and transfer control to
REM it so user can change floppies.

- Copy the new Setup.bat, 1MSDOS62.EXE, DBLCDESC.TXT, DESCRIP.TXT, NEW4_622.TXT, and README.NOW to a 1.44 MB disk (Name it: MSdos 6.22 setup 1/3)

- Swap the 1.44 MB floppy disk for a empty 1.44 MB floppy disk (name it: MSdos 6.22 setup 2/3)

- Copy 2MSDOS62.EXE to the floppy disk

- Swap the 1.44 disk for another empty 1.44 MB floppy disk (name it: MSdos 6.22 setup 3/3)

- Copy 3MSDOS62.EXE to the floppy disk

Now you created a 3 Disk setup

That's actually an interesting fact, and I'm surprised their are no newer alternatives. For example, all the computers in my school run Windows XP Pro, except for the Computer Aided Design one used by the engineering department which still runs Windows 95 purely for the reason that the software relys on DOS.

Do it really need to be MS-DOS? Because you can try FreeDOS. It's mainly the same thing, and it's also free. If you want to give it a try, you can find it here

How similar & compatible is MSDOS compared to FreeDOS?

MS-DOS 6.22 is still protected by copyright laws. Therefore, distributing copies is illegal.

The link is directly to a Microsoft server, therefore you can safely assume that Microsoft has no issue with you downloding a copy.

Either that, or someone at MS messed up.... I doubt its that though as the link is still live after 12 months...

The link in question points to an update for licensed users of certain previous versions of MS-DOS. Therefore, using it as a full version is illegal.

    • Isn’t it so sweet Microsoft after so many years of neglect, they admit to these issues in Windows lately? Doesn’t this just make you wanna run out and meet them halfway to give them a warm hug only? Just gives us this warm fuzzy feeling thinking about it. /s
