Changing logonui without a reboot

Recommended Posts

Windows file protection works by having a copy of files in system32/dllcache. If you replace the logonui.exe file in that dir AND in system32, windows cannot restore the original version. You will get a waring abt windows file protection, but just choose to keep the file and you will be ok.

You can then just log out to view the new logonui screen.

The only exception to this rule is if you installed XP from the hard disk and still have the source files on the disk. In that case XP will restore the original logonui.exe by expaning logonui.ex_ in the i386 dir of the install directory back to system32 and dllcache. If thats your situation, you need to move logonui.ex_ to some backup place as well.

Just for your information....
