I think there are web based clients for vnc, have a look here http://www.realvnc.com/

Yeah, that's correct. Simply install RealVNC or TightVNC Server. You will then be able to access your computer through the internet at http://your.ip.address:5800 or through ther VNC viewer itself by simply entering your ip address. If you are behind a router/firewall, be sure to open/forward the correct ports otherwise, just remote connections on your LAN will work.

hope this helps :)

There is also MyIVO...check it out at http://www.myivo.com/en/index.php

MyIVO also traverses firewalls and NATs and you don't have to worry about port forwarding and stuff. Simply install it and off you go. As a bonus, it offers file sharing free of cost too.

Performance wise, Logmein is better and the interface is more streamlined. I don't believe there is any better alternative to Logmein but MyIVO may soon catch up.

Well I think that VNC works pretty good. It is a little laggy compared to Remote Desktop Connection but I think VNC offers more features. Check out this forum thread for more info on setting up VNC. VNC should be able to do what you want although it may be slightly laggy. But it is free so.... :)

holy crap ! that was an old thread haha.

May I suggest TeamViewer. I use it all the time.

Regarding TeamViewer, the only thing I don't like is the fact that you cannot have it to automatically startup if you reboot your system. I am talking from the perspective of Mac and not PC. Am I missing something here?

Also, does anyway know if the ID changes?

Thanks!

You can have it startup with the computer. All you have to do is change the password, to something that you want. Then it should work.

also as convenient as web browser based alternatives may be to some people, i still prefer the simple and faster remote desktop that comes built into windows
