It sound a bits critical to me. I totally cannot move my mouse or else there are many windows that will appear. I try to use alt + f2 to open the run prompt. After that i manage to see the xf86config.

Can you teach me how to use keyboard to navigate to the xf86config window? Keyboard rules. I think my mouse is too afraid of cats. :laugh:

Yes, who said you can't? ;) However, if you want to try this, you might still have to edit XF86Config by hand.

So, does it helps?

I try this. It looks like you can configure the mouse. But i still figuring how to use the keyboard to do the configuration. Can i:

When i log into KDE,

what is the shortcut key for terminal, can i configure xf86config through command line. If can how to do it? maybe through command line can solve my "mad mouse" from scattering around the desktop.

Hehe, no. But, I do VERY few time when I feel like by use Lynx and Links, they are very small browser that has no GUI. Right now, I am using Opera and Phoenix in FreeBSD. Currently, I use Openbox as my main WM (GUI) rather than major/bloat WM like KDE, Gnome and etc. Sometime, I switch to Blackbox and Fluxbox. They all are very light weight WM.

Blackbox -> http://blackboxwm.sourceforge.net

Fluxbox -> http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net

Openbox -> http://www.icculus.org/openbox/

Visit three sites, they have many screenshots. Openbox and Fluxbox are based on Blackbox, which they extra more features. I like Openbox better so far, because of support xft (smooth fonts).

I never use newsgroup client, so I don't know what's app that I know. I am sure, there have plenty of it for non-X (GUI) required. I use mail client sometime, which it's CLI. It's Mutt.. Most popular are Mutt and Pine, but I like to use web-based email better thought.

I don't use file manager (like Windows explorer), I use command line. I find it's faster than to browser in the file manager for me to do the job such as cut, copy, paste and etc. I did tried ROX; it was very nice and bloody fast, but I like command line better.

Cool....i saw all the screenshots already. I don't see much different between blacbox, fluxbox or openbox with kde....

1 questions...why linux must have gnome and kde..funny why not just 1 kde enough already right?

I saw openbox can support linux 2.0.x - what this mean.can linux mandrake 8.2 or 9.0 or redhat etc can support all the box....

I extra blur..i new to linux but i know a lot on hp-ux (command line no gui) more on client rather admin side...

Thanks mezz :cry:

What are you smoking, can I have some? No, it's not same as with Gnome and KDE at all. There's no icon, any of fancy configure and etc. It's just menu and very less bloat.. Also, they are bloody faster than Gnome and KDE. If you still can't tell from the screenshot, then install one of them and try it. Don't worry, it won't overwrite KDE or Gnome, they each others are complete seperate. But, only very few files you will need to tweak to get start up with Openbox, Blackbox or Fluxbox.

What's wrong with choice? Nobody like the limit of choice. A lot of people like Linux, because they can do ANYTHING on it. It's a lot flexible than on Windows. There's plenty prefer for us to choice, that's what I like. KDE has too much eye candy, but not Gnome by default. That's what I like about Gnome.

BTW: That's what RedHat 8's main goal is to not show two different WM. RedHat 8.0 made KDE and Gnome look very same and it's hard to tell. Maybe, you should install RedHat 8.0 if you like that.

I don't quiet understand. Version of Linux doesn't matter. It's X, Glib and other libraries that what WM need. Yes, you can install it on any of Linux distro..

Umm, no... Tar is like WinZIP, but different format..

RPM is a installer tool (well, better word is package manager). You can create Openbox RPM, then users won't need to compile Openbox, which RPM will take care of it by install Openbox as binaries. Nobody like RPM, it sucks. Compile on your own is always the best method to get more stable and speed. To learn more about RPM, go -> www.rpm.org..

CVS is a development branch. It's very nice, to allow the developers catch up with each others. Like, if one developers update one source file and other developers can see it and merge/download. Also, a lot easier to keep thing on track. To learn more about it, go -> www.cvshome.org.. Here's example, I help MercuryBoard and it has CVS at http://cvs.mercuryboard.com ..

>> How long had you use Linux?

Around less than three months, then found BSD and fell in love with it; I never turn back to Linux. I have been using FreeBSD as my main desktop for near a year. Total for *nix, I would say around one and half years total so far. See my avatar, that's FreeBSD's mascot. Yes, I am a BSD freak.

Wow...so long. Thanks mezz. But 1 more thing, i don't want to learn newbie stuff like bash scripting but more to administration/troubleshooting linux. Create a linux web server or any server (learning samba right now), configure driver manually anything (i want to know how the thing is done behind KDE or whatever)... 1 thing i don't want to script just want to know how to and when to use the command.

www.linuxnewbie.com - i think the url is correct but it is not a place i am looking for?

Any better recommendations? Any good linux freak sites? Good forums on Linux Troubleshooting and Configuration? As long it works on Mandrake 8.1 ++, Redhat 7.3 ++, etc. Wondering linux always upgrade do the commands also upgrade. No books recommendation (expensive).

Thank you.

Chua Wen Ching :rolleyes:
